Maximum Theoretical Towing Capability F150
Maximum Theoretical Towing Capability F150
I know this isn't practical what so ever but i have often wondered how much you could theoretically pull on dry level payment in 4 wheel low in a straight line if you consider you have minimum tongue weight or a fifth wheel. Something along the lines of pulling a very large sail boat or maybe a semi sized load. I realize tire traction would probably come into play far before engine capability would but i'm wondering.
Your in a say, 2007 with the highest rated towing capacity (I have 99 navigator btw)
So if you consider maximum engine torque, transmission-rear end ratio, torque conversion (all stock parts of course) what might you get?

I think you are asking 2 different things.....
Maximum towable.....and maximum pullable or movable.
Maximum towable is listed in the owners manual as well as a sticky on the top of the towing and hauling thread for a particular model as options apply.
Maximum pullable or movable weight will be quite hard to determine. There are many factors.....most of which will be the pavement and the tires....as well as the weight of the truck with the added weight of the trailer tongue.
Excluding the fact that you will probably burn up the transmission in an automatic....or burning up a clutch in a manual transmission you could probably move....or get moving on level ground probably around 40,000lbs maybe more on say a hay wagon that has no real tongue weight as it has tires in all corners of the trailer.

Maximum safely and legally you can tow or just maximum fully loaded once in a lifetime type of thing? I've hooked up to a load before (0 lbs tongue weight besides the chain), and dragged it fine, but my tires were spinning.
