prodigy brake control

i have a prodigy brake control in my 01 s'crew and on occasion it tells me that there is an open ground, just wondered if anyone else gets this as well.

All conections are factory type, so nothing is spliced or crimped.

"og" or "OG" detected open ground on white wire at back of controller (not at 7-pin connector) or bad controller. Reseat connector at back of controller and where cable from controller connects to plug under dash.

If you have a spliced up cable between controller and dash connector I would get a new premade one and replace it ($12)

If you have a premade one I would eliminate truck wiring by spicing into the white wire in the controller wire harness and running an extra wire to a very good ground.

If it still fails I would call the nice lady at 1-888-785-5832 or www.tekonsha.com

If it's intermitent, then it could just be the connection between the truck plug and the trailer plug. Clean up the connectors on both and see if that makes any diff.

Could be. Tekonsha says you should get a "NC" for that condition. On my last trip I got "NC" and then "SH". I changed 7-pin connector and harness then trailer connector. I will rewire trailer brake system this year. No fun having these problems on second day of a 5 week trip.

Also clean and spray connector cleaner in 7-pin from time to time.. reseating connector several times will help clean. The trailer ground is held to the frame by a screw a few inches from the 7-pin connecter. Removing and cleaning ring and metal surface is sometimes needed in saltly north.

I should have mentioned that it only does this when i first start the truck and it only stays on for a few minutes, and when there is no trailer hooked up

My first post assumed there was no trailer attached but thanks for update. My comments were directly from Tekonsha web site.

I have had "PL" "NC" "SH" but never "OG". If you decide your white wire (ground) is good you will have to call them. They will give you a new one after receiving yours. I drove over and got a new one.

Maybe someone has had a truck problem and will chip in.

You might go to www.rv.net They have forums where more people will have that controller. It's very popular.
