Well, if you are willing to spend just a little over $100 and about 15 minutes of install AND setup time, then the Prodigy brake controller by Tekonsha would be the one to get IMO.....

Simply the smoothest and best reacting controller I've ever used. All the others had that jerky reaction when applied... Sure, they applied the trailer brakes and they did work, but none as smooth as the Prodigy....

I just bought a Prodigy controller. Its the best out there and well worth the piece of mind when you are towing.

Some say there are better controllers out there, but the Prodigy is great for those of us who don't know better - from what I have gleaned on this and other forums, it's about the most worry-free and idiot-proof unit out there. It's pretty much plug and play, no worrying about leveling and fine-tuning.

There are applications out there for which it won't work, but, like the stock tuning in our trucks, it works pretty well in almost all circumstances.

I also vote for the Prodigy. If you search the internet you can find it prety reasonable. I would also splurge on the Ford pigtail.

I've got a Prodigy on our truck, and when towing the same trailer with my dad's truck (and his crappy brake controller), it's like night and day.
