What is a Slider Hitch?

I just bought a 05 Super Crew with the 5.4 and tow package in hopes of getting a camper trailer really soon. While researching on this forum I found several people recommended the Slider Hitch for 5th wheel towing on a Super Crew. Can someone explain this a little better to me? Any additional advice would be appreciated as well, I have never towed anything more than a motorcycle trailer.

Picture the 5th wheel in the bed. Now to turn tight on some trailers you might hit the cab. So...you pull 4 pins, dive forward about 8 inches, drop the pins in the rear hole and you now have an extra 8 inches of clearance between the cab and the trailer nose. The whole latching assembly slides forward and back. Not the bolted rails.

Caution---This is meant for manuvering only...not towing. The CG is too far back and they are not as structurally sound as is the forward position.

Did this makes sense?

I don't think Ford authorizes the Supercrew for fifth wheel towing.

He didn't say he had a 150, just a screw, I'm guessing that's just implied here, huh?

The website is www.f150online.com and Ford calls the Super Duty Crew Cab, not Supercrew, so yes, I assumed OP meant F-150.

There is a slider that does it without pulling pins and such. I forget the name of it off hand, but that's what you want to pull a 5th in a Screw. One thing you will run across is that 5th wheels are heavier than comparable travel trailers. Any 5th wheel I'd want would need a SuperDuty to pull it.

Untill we get a superduty we settled on a cheaper ultralight TT.

That auto slider only slides as you turn, after unlocking. Open your wallet real wide, but it is real cool too.

My 5th wheel is 4900# dry 25' duthmman sport power slide living room 6500 Loaded, has a 10500# max but you would need to fill it full the get that #, big enough for 4, perfect for a 1/2 ton
