Question Which Trailer Brake Controller?

What is everyone using for controllers? I'm about to start towing a 14' trailer and need to get a controller installed and figure that I might as well make sure its a decent one.

I purchased a Tekonsha Prodigy (on the recommendations of other members) and think it is a first rate controller. However, other members will have similar opinions of other controllers on the market. Do a search in this forum on "controller" and you will probably find several discussions on this very same topic.

Thumbs up

My vote goes to the Prodigy too. I tow a #4500 travel trailer and I bought one of those 'cheap', no name brand, $50 controllers and it worked, but was really jerky and you had to keep adjusting it. Sometimes it would lock up, other times it would be fine.....

Mine cost $150, but you can find better deals out there. I've heard you can get them for around $120 off the internet. I will say that I think it's a bargain, even at $150!! For $10, you can also get the wiring kit for Ford and it has the connectors already wired, so all you have to do is mount it, plug it in, set the initial volts to 6.0, set the boost and go.

Ditto here. Simple install, two screws to hold the bracket. If you bought your truck with the tow package, FORD included the wiring harness that plugs in under your dash and wires right up to the unit.

Thanks for all the info. I did a search on controllers and there does seemt to be a pretty strong preference on them.

Prodigy

Not only a Great controller, but Teckonsha is a really good company to deal with.
There was an issue with the new 6.0L PSD powered trucks where you would get a false ground fault error code. this did not affect function, but Tekonsha replaced All the controllers for those of us getting the code with zero b.s.

Tekonsha

Tekonsa gets a thumbs up from me. I have the less expensive Tekonsha Envoy model and it works perfectly. Easy to install and set. I use it to stop a 4000+lb boat/trailer.

I did lotsa research before buying........got the Prodigy. It is everything everyone said.......and more.

Our Lightning has pulled as much as 13,630lbs GCWR (truck weight and towed weight), got just under 10mpg., went up all hills between sea level and 7000+ft. at 70+mph.........and stopped great.

Thanks to all here who recommended the Tekonsha Prodigy!!!!!

I have the Tekonsha Voyager, works great. My other vehicle has a Reese, not very happy with it.
