Need Help
I will be shortly gettign a full size Bronco for a project truck, only one problem though, I will more then likely need to tow it to my place, I have the truck to do it, but not the trailer I looked at uhaul and penseke and the both say that their trailers are only rated for 4000, and 4500 lbs with that later needing a truck rental, anyway the state that the bronco is too heavy for their trailer is there any other way because I can'r afford to by a trailer, escpcaily for just a one time trip.
How far away is the Bronco? Does the Bronco have wheels and can it roll? Do the brakes work?
My first thought would be to just flat tow it with 4 wheels down. Just disconect the drive shafts and rent a tow bar or if the distance is not too far, just use a tow strap and someone who can 'drive' the Bronco.
Or, rent one of those tow dollies that you run the front wheels on, then you'd only have to deal with the rear axle.
If the only way to move it is with a trailer, then I'm really surprised that the rental places say only a #4000 max. That might be only when it's being towed by one of their trucks..... I've seen 'lot's' of car trailers with big 3/4 ton trucks on them....
Good Luck!

well, I don't have one yet but the ones i'm looking at are from 100-300 miles away, one of the ones I'm looking at needs an engine, the other one needs brakelines, and I might look at a third one that runs if that was the case I could drive it. but the first two are closer to around what I want to spend. I was surprised too I was on the Uhal website and this is what they listed on the trailers/dollies
Trailer"
empty wieght: 2000lbs
max wieght: 6000lbs
max load 4000lbs
dolly:
max weight if towed with rear wheels up: 3900lbs
max weight if towed with front wheels up: 3450lbs

Check with a construction contractor, they often have flat bed trailers setting around with their equipment off. Also check at a farm implement dealer, they use flatbed trailers all the time for hauling farm machinery. They may be able to give you a good deal on renting one. Networking with friends and people at work and church can often get you whatever you need.
Yup, get a trailer for say a bobcat or whatever at a local rental yard. I wouldnt use a tow bar on something that heavy, basically whatever you pull it with will be about the same weight, youll be guessing the whole time which vehicle is doing the driving.
