Raptor ratings

Here is a copy paste quote from the 2010 SVT Raptor owner's guide:

The maximum weight your vehicle can tow is limited to 6,000 lb.
(2721 kg).
The Gross Combination Weight Rating (GCWR) for a vehicle equipped
with a 5.4L engine is 12,300 lb. (5579 kg).
The Gross Combination Weight Rating (GCWR) for a vehicle equipped
with a 6.2L engine is 12,400 lb. (5624 kg). See the Tires, Wheels and
Loading section of your F-150 owner guide for additional towing
information.
If you dont believe me, here is the link to the manual straight from the ford owner's service website.
http://www.motorcraftservice.com/pub.../10f12rp1e.pdf

I can carry the camper and pull smaller/lighter trailers.

It has a max weight of 6k and 12,300 at the hitch. Not sure how much one of those campers weight...I always thought they were heavy SOBs

Not at all. I have a 26 foot double axle bumper pull RV that weighs about 4800 with full propane. It has 2 either 20# or 30# bottles, dont remember at the moment, but they are sitting right on the hitch. My truck can pull it with the programmer set to stock. Dont get me wrong, you will feel that little camper's weight on the raptor when your driving but it is definitely within the vehicle's limits.

Ok so I guess it's not as heavy as I thought.

I can hear him now.....

"Wife said I can get a truck...Any truck...As long as we could put our camper in the back. So what did I do? I bought a Raptor! Because we only put the camper in for a few days at a time and the rest of that time.....I got a raptor!"

Help me out guys, I'm trying to translate all of those numbers let me see if I understand this correctly:

The Raptor can carry 6000 lbs, or tow 12,500 lbs, is that correct?

It can tow about 6k lbs. The 12,500 lbs is the combined weight of vehicle, passangers and load.

...or at least that is how I understand it.

Ok, I understand now. The whole "12,500 lbs at the hitch" was confusing the hell out of me.

What I find kinda strange is that this truck has a larger engine, improved suspension and powertrain but here is what my manual says for my truck, with 4.6L engine and 3.55 gears. 6600 Trailer 11500 GCWR

The main point is that the raptor should survive having a little camper on top.

And here's the thing that kinda sucks; you can ask the dealer why that is, and they probably wouldn't know.

I dont see anything wrong with this. Would you say the same thing if he was towing a trailer? Damn. A truck is a truck thats the beauty of it.

Once he gets to his campsite, I'll bet he can have that camper off in less then 15 minutes... Lower it to the ground, raise the top and he's got a very nice 'tent' for the weekend... The rest of the time he's doing the 'Baja' thing with the truck out on the trails and having a blast!!

Here are some pics of what I've done with my truck once I've setup in camp...
