Coil spring spacers don't exist?

Am I going crazy or what? I went to one of the largest truck performance & accessory shops in Fort Lauderdale, FL this past weekend "Speed & Truck World" and I asked one of the salesmen if they sold front coil spring spacers for a 4x2 F-150. He said "Coil spring spacers? I've never heard of those." I then said that I knew many F-150 owners who had these and that one of the more popular brands was Daystar. He replied "Daystar? I've never heard of them." I didn't know how to react to this guy! I thought to myself am I going crazy? He then said again "I've never heard of a company called Daystar, and I'm sure that no such product exists...blah blah blah." This is coming from a salesman at a major truck mod shop! Just to prevent an argument I said o.k. and left! Is this guy crazy or is it me? For those of you that DO have them, how much are they and are they easy to install yourself?

I have a set of Daystar spacers on my Grand Cherokee. I bought them from Off Road Warehouse. I beleive a set of 4 was about $90 ( ZJ's have coils front and rear). I am not sure how hard the springs are to remove from the front of a two wheel drive F-150 but they were not too bad on my Jeep.

butter-cheese,
where in Ft. Lauderdale are you? there's a pep-boys in university drive just off of 595 (at the towers shopping plaza) that has them. theyre the rubber ones, so theyre nopt as good as the daystar ones, but at least theyre cheap (i think like 12 bucks or something). hope this helps!

by the way, from my experience, the people at speed and truck world dont know their butt-hole from a hole in the ground. and their prices are not the best. just my $.02, good luck!

Pep Boys and Autozone both carry all kinds of them. There are several different kinds some twist in some pop in some slip in and then have adjusting screws that make them bigger.

ive had bad luck with all of those. the only ones i recommend are the rubber (or polyurethane) ones that go under the spring and boost it up. just my opinion.

just ordered some Daystar 1 1/2" spacers

Did a search in Yahoo and found a place that has them. Should receive them in a week. $62.95. I couldn't find anyone locally who even heard of them much less stocked them.

Having the oversize BFGs, can't wait to see how it looks inch and a half higher.

My only problem with the Daystars is that their support people said longer shocks are required (4x2 front). So to lift an inch or so in the front, I'd need the Daystars, two shocks and installation labor. I'm going to try the rubber doughnuts for $15 and see what happens. If they don't work, maybe I'll do the Daystar and shock change.

Linetest, that surprises me. On the Daystar website, they only say you need aftermarket control arms for the 3" kit (nothing about shocks). I intend to buy new shocks anyway to go with the spacers but need to get the right ones. So i need to be sure of this before i order shocks.

I am curious to see your results. I intend to do the same thing on a 4x2 Expedition that I may be acquiring. I am so cheap that I will probably use a $5 shock extender to start. Keep us posted!

Do the Daystar spacers come with the camber correction?

Chris

Regarding shocks, it doesn't matter what brand or type of spacer you use. If it's only a mild lift, say 1 to 1 1/2 inches, you shouldn't need new shocks, because your suspension's down travel limit hasn't changed. Your suspension will not droop any further with spacers, because your max droop is controlled by the upper control arm. When you go 3 inches of lift (coil or spacers, not spindles), then you change the upper control arm and gain more droop. Then you would need new shocks. Also, I have Daystar spacers and am very happy with them. They won't wear out like a soft rubber spacer will. Also, when you get Daystar spacers, you only get the two spacers and instructions. You WILL need an alignment and cam bolt kit, unless you already have it.

GPat. thanks... a question

Sorry to be stupid but...... what's a cam bolt kit??? I'm only lifting the front end. I already figured on the alignment as I saw a post of yours on this subject in another thread.

I'm going to order some Rancho RSXs tomorrow and if I need something else I want it all in place before everything gets here I take it to a shop for install.

thanks,
dave

carlsdl, I had seen the Daystars on the macromotive website that had a side note that longer shocks may be required. I emailed Daystar and they said yes. And this was for a 1 1/2" lift. Not even the 3".
F Patricio, is the alignment kit needed for the 1 1/2" lift or for the 3" you installed?
I want to level the front with the rear, no big project. But my wife is not entirly fond of my "Mods". I was looking to stay as cheap as possible. I'm sure the rubber rings (if they do anything at all) are a temporary soloution. But it will keep the peace if I can lift the front for around $100 installed.

A cam bolt kit replaces the four bolts that attach your two upper control arms to the frame. The bolts include large eccentric washers, so that when you turn the bolts, the upper control arm can be adjusted inboard or outboard to adjust camber and caster. I had a pic but I can't locate it. The kit costs about 50 bucks, but I believe NAPA has it cheapest. The NAPA part number is 264-2953 for one side only, you'll need two.

Forget the rubber rings and the adjustable spreaders. I jacked the truck up and there was no way I could squeeze the rubber doghnut in. The coil just didn't slacken up enough. And the metal adjustable ones wouldn't have gone in nicely either. For me, it's going to be Daystars or nothing.

More Daystar info

Got the following info from Daystar tech support. Asked them about the longer shocks and cam bolt kit.

We do recommend that you run longer shocks, and have the front realigned, you may need the cams.

As you can see, what I got was 'recommend' and 'you may need'. But at least it's something. I'll go with the longer shocks and the cam bolt kits I guess.
