Level out front end
Level out front end
I just got my 2001 Super crew 4x4. I love truck and its features. I would just like it a little more if the front end was level with the rear. Does anyone know a good way to bring up that front end without spending alot of money. My truck has the stock 17" rims with the Goodyear Tire.
All you need to do is crank up the preload on the torsion bars. You should be able to raise the front abou an inch or inch and a half with no problem. Then take the truck and have the front end alignment checked.
Here's my way.... Overkill!
Just did it. About 1" is perfect. You'll be impressed. Higher? and I think the ride would suffer. I read just about every post in this forum concerning the torsion lift and think i have the perfect combination. At least it worked for me.
My way; And I'm by no means an expert:
This is a 2 beer minimum job. About 30 minutes & an 18mm socket & measuring tape.
1. Get level. Probably doesn't matter but it'll make you feel better in the end.
2. Measure top of the tire to the fender on all 4. Write it down.
3. Get a buddy to measure while you crank. Better yet, get a buddy to crank while you measure. Lift each side by the T-bars only 1/2 inch.
4. Drive around to settle the new lift.
5. Measure again and lift the same way to a total of 1 inch lift from the first measurement on both. Don't go higher than the rear.
Drive again and loosen it up.
Now here's my theory: You're probably going to have to get an allignment anyway. So, if the L and R fronts are level by lift increment but not exactly the same by real measure and they probably wont be? Lift the shorter of the 2 up and even by measure with the other front. Now you're level and you need an allignment.
Drive around again and remeasure. I was higher in the front than the back and had to loosen to be even or as close to even as possible.
FYI: I did mine this way and it's probably overkill but I ended up 1/16 off on the Left rear, the other 3 are exact. I'm banking on the gas tank as the cause. My total lift from stock was 1 & 1/16" Right front and about 1" exact on the left front.... I did need an allignment. Steering was off a little. My hanging point for the measuring tape was the ridge on the Goodyear just below the tread. My 3 perfects are 9 1/2" to the inside of the fender flare.
Hope that helped..
