Control Arm Bushing Preload
Control Arm Bushing Preload
I recently just replaced majority of every moving joint in the front end of my truck and had a question regarding the upper control arms.
Prior to removing the upper control arms I marked with a sharpie where the bolts aligned to try and keep steering angles close to where they need to be prior to alignment.
I had the frame of the front of the truck on jackstands, and prior to lining up and torquing down the upper control arms I placed a floor jack under the lower control arm (one side at a time) and lifted the lower arms just enough to take the weight of the vehicle off the jackstands. The idea was to try and take some of the preload off the torsion bars so that when I did tighten the upper control arms, they wouldn't twist the bushing too much.
I noticed I had maybe 1/2" gap between the lower stop and the upper control arm when I had the lower arms jacked up. But now that the tires are installed and the truck is back together I noticed there is now 1" - 1 1/4" gap between the lower stop and upper control arm.
Is that going to be an issue for the new control arm bushings? Should I back them off one side at a time and re-torque them so that they aren't under any stress while the vehicle i sitting at rest, or am I overthinking this?
