I just put some new rubber under my truck and my mechanic pointed out some issues. My ball joints are in pretty bad shape and my sway bar links are all but gone. He quoted me $1,001.73 out the door to replace passenger side upper ball joint control arm, both lower ball joints, sway bar link pins and an alignment. Am I getting screwed, or does this seem like a fair price? Labor alone quotes 5 hrs @ $98 per hour!

Damn.... That is super cheap! Unfortunately, time is an issue for me. I haven't got the time to do the work myself and after seeing this, it definitely looks like I'm getting a raw deal.

 

Every repair shop has to get mark up on the parts and their labor cost. I would shop around. Just make sure you are not getting cheap china parts!!! Stick w/ Federal/ Moog parts when they give you a price.

 

How much are they charging per part and what brand are they?

To give you a rough idea, I shopped around and found an alternator shop in my area that did upper and lower ball joints on my old truck for like $230 labor plus parts. Try to find the local mom and pop shops that need the work, they'll usually give you a better deal.
