leaf springs

i have a 1999 Ford F150 4x4, the rear shackle broke and the leaf spring went up to the bed, how do i get the pressure off the spring in order to put on the new shacle and mount it to the hanger

Get some 5 ton jacks and set them to about the 5th setting. Raise the the axle high enough to set the jacks stands just in front of front leaf spring mount. Under the frame! .. You will need to unbolt the u-bolts from the leafs to axle. Then lower the axle till the leaf pack separates from the axle.

This will take the load of the springs.

If anyone knows a better way please feel free to chime in.
