Leaf Springs
Leaf Springs
Hey everyone,
Does any one knows where I could get a new set of lifed rear leaf springs? I have called around to a few places, but all I found was add-aleafs and blocks. I got a block and add-aleaf in the
rear right now and would like to get ride of them.
Thanks Darren

I got Pro-Comp 2" leaf springs for my old Ranger at 4wheel parts wholesalers and my bro got 1.5" Rancho leafsprings from 4xDoctor in Northern CA. Those were both for Rangers though, so i'm not sure about F-150's. Check out National Springs, i'm sure they make 'em. Hope this helped...
Consult a local shop that does spring work. I did, they said if I bring them my springs, they can match them and give them a new arch to add a 2" lift so I don't have to use a block any longer. I just haven't found the time to pull them off yet.
Thanks for the replys.
Im going to call national spring some time his week and see if they can make a set for me and to see what the price will be!
The local shop around here said it would be about $400
for the rear set a leaf springs. Dont think ths is to bad but I just wanted to see if their is anywhere cheeper.

Darren:
Whoa!! Did someone quote you $400? I think they are a bunch of cons!! I had a local heavy truck repair and fabrication shop make up some rear leafs for my '97. They made them to fit between the second and first leaf in my packs. Cost was about $65.00 for both, including new centre bolts. I had them make up new u-bolts, because I also added taller lift blocks in the back. The bolts cost another $35.00. And these prices are in Canadian to boot.
It is really not hard for them to make, most shops have all sorts of leaf spring steel sitting around. All new F-150's are 2.5 inches wide. The leafs they gave me were a constant 5/8" thickness. It gave about 1.5 inches of lift in the back, drastically helped with the sag, and did not make the ride too hard. It actually rides much better now, with less body roll.
The stock F-150 springs are far too puny, Ford made them soft because they are trying to make all the city slickers buy them as a car. Adding an extra leaf is the equivalent of buying the 6600GVR package for your truck versus the 6000GVR. Add-a-leafs add about 600 lbs of capacity.

JimW,
The $400 were for brand new leaf springs with a 4 in arch over stock.
I have a extra leaf in now which doesnt make the ride to stif but I just want to get rid of the blocks I have now.

Oh. That's a very interesting way of changing around your suspension. What are the advantages of going to this kind of setup? Better articulation, I suppose. I personally am very happy with the way adding just one leaf to my spring packs and a 1 inch taller block have changed how everything works in the back.

When I spoke to the local spring shop here, they said that the worst thing you could ever do is to put a lift block in the rear end.
It apparently effects the pinion angles and some other factors as well. Does this sound right??
I have a 2 inch block and they said they would rearch the springs
to accomodate the two inches for $85 if I bring them the springs.

Jpkaiser,
Lift blocks are not that bad as long as u dont go to high or stack them. Some blocks can fix the pinion angle. Right now I have a 3in block on top of the factory block and that why I want new springs plus my springs has one hell of a squeak. Darren

I asked a local shop in CT how much to make up an add a leaf for the 97 f150 4x4 I have. They quoted $350!!!!!!. I bought the a pair of add a leafs from Summit racing for about $50. The set I bought is the same set decsribed in product reviews. It raised the rear of my truck 3"!!!! Although the instructions showed a spring with about 5 leafs...mine only had three to begin with! The ride is still great, but because I lost a plastic washer, and the leaf does not come with any, the spring squeaks once in a while. I will say it was not a piece of cake job.Installing the bigger spring assy was a pain for sure. You have to raise the vehichle WAY up and then when you start to raise the rear and spring together the rear and block dont easily align with the spring hole You have to force the rear forward...but it is on the JACK!! tricky for sure.........Bob
Guys I know we have different trucks but. I called National Spring Co. today and they quoted me $600(pair)+tax. I emailed Alcan and they quoted me $350(each spring). Now before you go crapping your pants...Keep in mind both of these are custom made for each individual application. Basically they punch in your rear axle weight, any tool chests, spare tires, stuff in the bed, etc...and they will ask if you tow anything, if so then they need that info as well. They punch all those numbers into a computer and it tells them the numbers of springs to use and some other design info. They are awesome and the best part is you can get rid of those stupid blocks. I know I am gonna get a set ASAP. The bad part is the wait for National Springs is about 1 month.
