Rough Ride

I have an '06 F150 FX4 and am closing in on 78k miles. I feel like the ride is ridiculously rough lately. I do mostly city driving and it seems like every bump and pot hole shakes the hell out of the ride and the bed rattles like crazy.

I'm thinking if upgrading to Bilstein 5100's or heavy duty shocks and struts. My question is do you think it's worth it? Should I invest the money or just accept the rough ride. Every now and then I tow a motorcycle trailer but nothing any bigger. Anyone else experience this problem? And if shocks are not the issue what could it be?

Any input is appreciated.

Yes, it is definitely worth it. The factory struts aren't the best to begin with, and given your mileage you are about due. It might be time to check all of your bushings and ball joints up front.

I have the same struts. I actually think it rides better than my stock 01 Screw did? Maybe its just me.

Will be just as rough with Bilstein 5100s. The firm everything up and make the ride unpleasant, at least my experience with them in my old 2004. Rancho Quiklift seems to be where its at. Adjustable ride comforts.

I to believe the 5100's ride rough when set to level 2 (2 inch lift) setting.

I replaced my shocks and struts with the Bilstein 5100's a couple years ago when I had about 12k miles on my original S&S's because I was upgrading my brakes and just got 35's so I thought id upgrade to the 5100's while I was at it.

Well, instantly I noticed a much rougher ride, I didn't like them at all.. It also didn't give me the 2" lift they say it does.. So I ended up returning the Bilstein's down to the 0 setting and reinstalled the spacer and wow. Huge difference, got my 2"s back and the ride is perfect, soo much better than the oem's, it now feels very sporty and handles soo much better.

If you don't plan on using then for the level kit there great but if you want the 2" level I'd look at another setup. But they sure are the best looking shocks and struts out there, they look Awsome on my rig.
