Removing Rear Leaf Blocks

Hey guys,

I'm new to the site and I have been driving my 2009 fx4 for about 2 months now and want to change the suspension.

It has a Rancho Quick Lift leveling kit up front and the PO put 1.5" blocks under the rear leafs to re rake it. I'm planning on changing the tires and I'm not a fan of the increased wheel gap in the rear. Measuring 2"+ more than the front.

What I want to do is simply remove the rear leaf spring blocks. It seems like a pretty simple procedure but what I want to know is what stock parts I may need to buy to get the rear back to stock.

Current rear leaf spring setup.

Rear suspy diagram.

I see on this ford suspension diagram that there is something they refer to as a leaf plate I might need to purchase. Also would I need to buy new U brackets and nuts to keep this thing legit? Thanks for the insight, I look forward to hearing your expertise.

Cheers,

Kyle

Looks like the factory block to me. All the 4x4s come with blocks under the rear for added height. Has and extra leaf spring than mine, but that may be by design, not sure if thats an AAL or not.

yeah that looks like a factory lift block, and if it's not it will still bring the back end down a good bit. you may need to get 2wd u-bolts, but from the looks of it, you may be able to use the current ones.

Ok. What I'm wanting is less space between the flare and wheel. I don't like how large the gap is. Currently I think the tires look too small for the gap and they are 35's so I'm not gonna fit much bigger there.

Would the solution be to take a leaf out or change out the block? I'd like the truck to be level with minimal or no rake. Would taking out the block take away from capability of the truck or is that mostly for looks? One question I have is why is this block not shown in the parts catalogue page i posted?

EDIT* I see now part 5729 is most likely the lift block. Am I correct in this?

Is there any reason these blocks aren't in the parts fiche? I specified 2009 f150 4x4 for it, so you would think it would show if it was stock?

yes 5729 is the lift block

yes if you put a 4x4 it should show a lift block in the stock parts diagram. if you put a 2wd it shouldn't have that lift block.

just jack up the truck and put the axle on jack stands, then raise the vehicle from the tow hitch to take the weight off the axle and then remove the u-bolts and discard the lift block. then tighten the u-bolts and you're good to go.

Cool. I will try this out when I get back home where my jack is. I'll let you know how I like the end result.

Man those things do not look like 35's. If they are unless you have an AAL I have no clue why you have the gap you do. Are they measured as 35x12.50 or a metric size?

I just used an online calculator, didn't break down the numbers.

315/70/R17's What does that work out to?

Yes they are 35's. I wish I could figure this out. Here is another pic of the setup. It has 4 leafs, but i also noticed in the parts fiche that some older models came with 4 instead of the new 3.

That being said I measured the gap between the wheel to the flare on both sides of the truck. One side measured 9.5" and one side 8.5".... How is this possible, starting to **** me off.

Pics of the wheel gaps

9.5" Rear Driver:
9.0" Rear Pass:
7.25" Front Driver:
8.0" Front Pass:

Minimum half inch differential from side to side.

This is my first truck, am I just being too picky? I want the wheel gaps to be same both side in the very least. Thanks for any input.

maybe the shocks are worn out?
not too sure why the driver side is higher than the passenger, because the fuel tank is on the driver side, which means it should actually be lower on that side.

Post a picture of your front cv's. My guess is you didn't get 2" of lift from those ranchos (common issue)

those bfg's run extremely small. a 315/70/17 is only slightly larger than a 34, and the tread width IIRC on those are around 11 when i measured my old set.

You have an AAL in the rear is the only explanation then. My 2011 has 3 leafs

if you want to lower the rear. you couldswap the rear shackle for a 1 or 2" drop shackle.

That's definiatly a AAL.

but the block don't look stock to me.
the one on my truck had a "arm" to the inside so the bump stop hit it instead of the diff.

,5" difference from tire to fender side to side I wouldn't bother with that...it's pretty normal to me...just bounce the suspension and it will change.
