Shock install questions
Gentlemen:
I have a mostly stock 2000 SCab with about 6k miles on it. I don't do any off-roading but like to drive somewhat agressively on the streets. The ride has become mushy and I am considering replacing the factory shocks with Rancho 5000's.
1- Are these a good choice for my truck and street use?
2- Can they be easily replaced in the driveway of my condo?
3- Will it effect my alignment (i.e. need re-alignment)?
4- Is ~$150.00 for all 4 (delivered) a reasonable deal?
TIA for all your help... XLT_D

I would go with the Rancho RS9000's. They are adjustable. I have the Rancho RSX's in the front and the 9000's in the rear. I have heard that the 5000's are a little to stiff but that is a good price for all 4. I bought my 9000's for 65.00 and the RSX's for 50.00 from www.4wheelparts.com. I likeem alot.
1. If you drive "aggressively", I would pay a bit more and get the RS 9000s; they allow you to adjust the firmness to your liking.
2.Yes, piece of cake.
3. The shock change doesn't change suspension geometry or require an alignment.
4.Good price.

1. Can't truly answer - don't have the 5000's. Thought about edelbrocks or Rancho RSX's or Monroe Reflex shocks? Maybe better choices for street driving. Just a thought.
2. No problem - especially with the low miles and low age - there shouldn't be a lot of rust.
3. No Alignment necessary.
4. Sounds like a decent price!
Good luck!

The fronts should not be that bad. The rears are a pain. Look at how they get mounted at the top. There is not much room to move around up there.
