Have someone drive your truck in the rain and you follow it in a car. Maybe then you'll understand why you need mud flaps. It's not all about looking cool. If that don't fly, do what others have said, lower it and return it to stock.

I also just received a ticket for the same thing here in Bullhead City. They must be on a push here. I think I have beat them at their own game... however I need on vital piece of info which is the stock height spec from bumper to ground on 2002 f250. I have found spec from ground to bottom of tailgate which would defiantly work but this was on 2011 f250. The law simply states if you change the height from bottom of bumper to ground you must have mud flaps however it says nothing about tire size width aftermarket ect. I am pulling out 3 inch blocks and 1 spring to lower rear height back to within stock specs, they will have no choice but to sign off the ticket. I spoke with D.P.S. on dec. 24 and he advised me it is a technicality it will work but it will put a target on my back. He also stated that if they refused to sign off I could request a judge make the decision. I hope it doesn't go that far but I will take it to any extreme, for one I dont like mud flaps and for two the officer treated me like an absolute child making me hold my hands out to side for a long period of time because I had a pocket knife, took pictures of my truck like it was some crime scene, and talked down to me like a piece of trash obviously nothing better to do. AZ guy what was your outcome?

Found this after Googling:

Arizona's Vehicle Mud Flap Law
A.R.S. Section 28-958.01 sets forth Arizona's mud flap law:

28-958.01. Rear fender splash guards
A. A person shall not operate a truck, trailer, semitrailer or bus on a highway unless the vehicle is equipped with rear fender splash guards that comply with the specifications provided in this section.
B. The splash guards:
1. Shall be attached in a manner that prevents the splashing of mud or water on the windshield of other motor vehicles.
2. Shall extend to a length of not more than eight inches from the ground.
3. Shall be wide enough to cover the full tread or treads of the tires being protected.
4. Shall be installed close enough to the tread surface of the tire or wheel to control the side throw of the bulk of the thrown road surface material.
5. May be constructed of a flexible rubberized material.
6. Shall be attached in a manner that, regardless of movement either in the splash guards or the vehicle, the splash guards retain their general parallel relationship to the tread surface of the tire or wheel under all ordinary operating conditions.
C. This section does not apply to:
1. A vehicle commonly known as a pickup truck with a manufacturer's rating of three-quarter ton or less, except that this section applies if the pickup truck has been modified from the original bumper height design to raise the center of gravity of the pickup truck.

A lift raises the center of gravity for the truck, so they have you by the bulls, I'm afraid. I'm gonna check my laws now, even though my truck has no lift/drop modifications.

... and etc ...

Not "like a child", rather just someone he does not know and therefor has absolutely no reason to trust. reminds me of the day I had a certain reckless driving truck driver call in a complain on me before I got to the office, said that I "talked to him like he was a child or a dog". I told my supervisor that it was "a damn lie because I loved children and dogs and that I did not speak to him like I would either one". It's how I wrote my letter too, just responded to the complaint as he made it. Captain ruled it "unfounded".

Pics of truck or car or MC or dead body with knife in it are good in court, I often took photos of certain situations / mods / etc that were to be presented as "evidence" in court. Sometimes, I took "stuff" itself and presented it, not the photograph.

If you displayed the attitude that your screen name shows, he spoke to you correctly.

It is a bias law that was written stupidly. F250 trucks are basically the exact same as an excursion except it has a truck bed. My vehicle will not fling anymore rocks than that of an excursion with the same lift and tires however they are exempt from the law. That being said any arizona police officer that takes his or her time to harass a lifted P.U. truck under this law, (if they even understand it) and treat someone like the way I was treated is sick. Fix the law and then enforce it or throw it out. Also I did not even know of the law until I was pulled over so I was not ****y, as well I treated the officer with total respect... I would have expected the same. I was obviously asking for way to much for that huh?
Yep, you chose the tune, he just finished the dance.

I just have a 6" lift and I don't want to put damn mud flaps on my truck!!! There ugly and also cost around $200.00!!!
The second you lifted your truck you had a problem. Ignorance of the law is no excuse.

Yeah you were asking too much to be treated with respect. Sadly some officers think they're above the law but don't let that ruin your day. I deal with *******s everyday who think they deserve more than the next guy just because and think they can treat me like crap just because Im getting paid to listen to them. Frankly they are sort of correct but after a while everything they say just bounces off of me and they just get pissed off even more that they're not getting a rise out of me. If they're having a bad day thats their own problem and I don't take them yelling at me or cussing at me over the phone personal. Sometimes it pisses them off even more that Im not miffed by their verbal abuse and frankly I find it amusing. Smile and treat people how you want to be treated. If they come off like an *** and they know it maybe later they will feel guilty about it or they will be in your same shoes with an authority figure above them treating them like crap and they will look back and realize how you felt and feel bad for treating you that way. Thats only a bonus.

My Mom always says the best reaction is no reaction. Many times people are just trying to get a rize out of you and maybe the cop was trying to do that. If so oh well you went home at the end of the day in a good mood and the cop drove away in the same crappy mood that he pulled you over in and guess who was the real winner in that situation? Yeah you paid a fine but he is the one that is making his day a bad day because he has a bad attitude and you are the one with the good attitude. You're the winner by all counts with a good attitude in almost any situation. And no thats not some lovey dovey warm fuzzy crap its the truth about life in my opinion. Alright rant off I'll be quiet now

Any thing you do that might affect the safety of a motor vehicle operated on a public highway either to the occupants or to other roadway users (or even those who live and work and play alongside said roadway) is something worth a phone call to check as to compliance with the laws ...
... with either your local or state police.
They have the books at hand and are cheaper than lawyers and usually know the cade far better. Things like "safety chains" on trailers to make sure you don't send a loose trailer through someone's front yard at 70 mph come about in response to problems that have shown up with regularity. Same with mud flaps on lifted vehicles as I've seen rocks take out windshields after flying out of tread. If you don't check an make the mods, then besides responding to questions, we get the word out through word of mouth, PSAs, warnings, and sometimes tickets (whether of the "fix it" variety or not).

But I can see there's little if any reason to discuss it as your mind is obviously made up and I likely wasted my time even at this.

Have a nice .......

You know what they say " it's the law" whether you like it or not, knew of it or not, you are out of compliance. Plain and simple. I also agree with the broken windshields. I had 4 replaced so far from stones kicked up and not from tail gating but from someone passing me. Think about it, you should have checked the code first.

Just to make sure that everyone is aware.

Law Enforcement personnel do not write the laws. The officials elected by the people write the laws that the people want.

If you do not agree with a law. Vote!
