Yes, thats why you shouldn't do the spacers. Spend the money and go for the Bilstein shocks with height adjustment, they're only $300 or so for the pair and it solves the over extension that occurs during droop travel. The Bilstien shocks have the same affect on ball joint angle as a leveling kit, so they won't help ball joint life at all.
As for the original question, ball joints are a high wear item on the 97-11 F-150's. It's not unusual for a stock truck to wear out ball joints within 50k miles. Their lifespan is shortened of course as you increase their angles. How much? Hard to tell. But 2.5 inches appears to be the absolute limit with the 04-11 trucks. At 3 inches, they really wear at a fast pace.
