Front CV Axle replacement 2008 help

I have a cracked boot on the front inside passengers CV boot and am going to replace the CV Axel since it should be easier than the boot and not much more expensive.

Does anyone have any pictures or tips on how I should do this. The guys at autozone seem to think I only need to pull the tire and loosen the one rod at the bottom and I should be able to rotate the tire to get it out.

Any help would be appreciated.

If the crack on the boot is fresh, you can get a new boot installed for under 40 bucks if you bring it to a shop off the truck.

The original Quote was to replace the boot but the amount of labor I got quoted to replace the boot or take it off and stretch it over was more than the cost of the axle and that labor.

I cant seem to find anyone who can put the boot on for a reasonable price. Has anyone put a boot on before?

When I had the boot installed, the shop put the joint in the press to break the spline connection. It took them about 5 minutes total. It is not worth the time to try to stretch the boot, if that is their preferred method try someone else.

If a shop has the right tools it is easy as cake.

My three quotes for replacing the boot from the dealer and local two shops all come out to 300+ at all 3.

THREE HUNDRED DOLLARS ????

I have done a few on Subarus and T-Bird rear axles and a Buick FWD car ... in my basement on my work bench. I've never replaced the axle / CV Joints ... just boots / lube / bands.

Once off, it ain't so hard. If I save $20 bucks that's good money .... usually it's more.
