Which shock to buy
Finally going to replace my so called HD shocks on my 98 f-150 4x4 orp, can't make my mind up on what to get. Don't want ranco 9000's, have them on my explorer and i never use the adjustments so kinda wasted my $$$. Was thinking of getting 5000's but I've read that several of u guys think the ride is a bit stiff on the road. I do very little off roading and would a smooth ride on the road. any suggestions? was thinking of the pro-comp ES 3000's, any info please
steve,
bilstein has always been my favorite. i'm probably going to get a set in the next few months for my truck. i considered the rancho's for my truck, also. same as you, i think i would hardly ever touch the settings. good luck with your decision, Rich.

Edelbrocks here too. Bilstein are great as well. Al of these are in the same price range too, about $70 each.
There are great posts about I think Monroe Sensematics (sp) or something. About $30 each.

I installed the Edelbrocks last weekend and I am very impressed with their performance. Edelbrock has a $27 rebate for a set of 4 shocks.
My second choice would be Rancho RSX/Monroe Reflex. The Rancho and Monroe are the same shock.

Steve,
I agree with S-76.
Even if you do not change settings often, you do get to decide which one is best for you.
On the other hand, you never know if a year or two down the road you find yourself towing a boat or trailer.
I've had mine for over a year and find them well worth the cost.

I'll put my 2 cents in for the Monroe Reflex shocks. Nice improvement in ride quality for about $140 dollars total. Not a bad deal if you like the cocept behind the edelbrocks but not the price tag.
I have the RS5000's and I really like them a lot. They are stiffer than the factory shocks, but I like the more firm ride. Who buys a truck for ride quality anyway?
They do much better offroad (real offroad, not on a gravel road or in a field) because they absorb impacts much better. They also made the truck more stable when towing. I highly recommend them.

Anyone using Pro Comp ES9000? How do they compare to some of the other shocks talked about here? I'm thinking about upgrading mine soon and heard good things about these in regards to my old truck (92 Dakota). At $30 a piece I'm thinking they might be wortha try.

I just got a set of Rancho RSX's installed and they are a huge improvement over OE. Body roll which was one of the only complaints I had on the truck since I've had it, has been eliminated. Also these shocks do not ride like a brick when you hit a bump. The ride is much tighter but not uncomfortable. Mike
