Yeah i was going to get 5.13s custom made but it was going to cost an extra bit of money so i went with 4.88s instead. Ill soon have 40s as well on my truck. Starting to get some work done now that im deployed again. Purchasing 12 inch rear leaf springs today

Yeah I know what you mean. And there is so many lifted 04-08's for sale down here that it's hard to beat other peoples asking prices.

IMO 4.88s is not enough gear for that setup. My dads running 41 iroks with 4.88s and I think it needs more. You will be much happier with a 5.13.

Very interesting info, LightningExpo. I would have guessed a 4.88 gearset would have been plenty for a 40-42" tire. Would you say that it feels like a 3.73 gear with a 35" tire?3.55 with a 35"?

I'm running 37"s with 4.88, and I was thinking of 40's for the next set, because I thought I wouldn't lose too much low end snap with 3" bigger tires.

i honestly wish i started with a F250 man. I want 5tons on some huge tires now lol. Thats why ive been on trucks gone wild forum and chucks trucks looking for stuff. But im just trying to finish this darn truck and get it either sold or just keep it as a daily driver toy. I plan on having a few vehicles. so for tires ill prob just stick with 40s for now.

Really? Cause my opinion 4.88s is too much for 37s and was thinking a 40 would pair nice with this set up

Is $17.5k KBB private party or retail? The fact that there a bunch of F150 Screws out there for sale makes it tough. I just bought a 2006 4x2 for $7k, BUT it has 197k miles and it's bone stock.

yeah i would agree with you also, i have 4.88's and 41's. i can still go 110mph and i can hold the brake and just touch the throttle and the tires start burning out.

Thanks for your real world testimony. That confirms that I made a good choice with the 4.88's. I was a bit worried when I started to read that I might have needed a 5.13 gear for a 40" tire, but as with much you read on the "net", it's good to confirm your decisions.

Thanks, Dillon

Its probably a personal preference between the two gear sets. I would want something a little better around town for the driving I do which is why 5.13s i think wound run better. My father also has a 250 so the weight is a bit of a factor compared to a 150. My brother had 5.13s in his 1500hd with 38x15.5s and it ran great. That was also with a 6.0 though. Personal preference for me is 35s-4.56s; 37s-4.88s; 40+-5.13s. From my experience thats what I like.
