Add-a-Leaf & Block

I currently have a 5.5" Procomp Rear Block and am taking it out. I am thinking about going to a 4" block and an add-a-leaf. I am having a lot of axle wrap. I tightened my drive shaft bolts and could move the axle quite a bit....Little surprised. If I did not tow so much I would leave it alone. Selling the Procomp Block...

Anyone have any luck with a 4" block and Procomp Add-a-Leaf?

Have you ever broke any u joints or anything with this block? I'm interested in jt because my truck sags real bad, 6" lift in front and stacked blocks in the rear, 4.5". Procomp lift...but if your getting rid of it cause you have bad axle wrap I don't know..I don't tow anything though

I have a 6" RCX on my 07 scab. I just removed the big *** rear block and installed some Skyjacker 4" lift leaf springs along with my stock 2" blocks. Way better setup, IMO. No axle wrap and the springs are nice and arched instead of flattened out with the RCX block. It's a little stiffer ride but it feels better then the factory ride. I got Bilstein 6" lift struts coming for the front to eliminate the 6" spacer and 6" Bilstein shocks for the rear to replace the cheap RCX shocks. Should be a sweet setup when completed.

If you can afford new leaf springs, that would be the way to go. Atlas and Deaver make 6" lift leafs if you won't to go without any blocks. I paid like $1100 for the new springs and Blsteins. About $2500 total in my lift.

I have never broken anything, I am pretty hard on the truck and was a little apprehenive running a block that large considering that when I do drive the truck it is to a campsite and I have one of two trailers hooked on it that both weigh quite a bit....I know lot of people that run the block just is not working for my application. I am selling if you are interested....$100 shipped...

I thought about going that route with custom leafs, I already have to much money invested in a truck that I drive about a 1,000 miles a year. I only use this truck when I go camping and sometimes I don't even take it then. I can install the add-a-leaf and 4" block for about $265....Not to bad and should work out better for me....Good advise though, thanks...

I hear you. Nothing is cheap anymore. The smaller block and AAL should do the trick for you though.

Traction bars are like $400 with the adaptors and you can install yourself......peanuts compared to the money you already have in the truck.

This logic makes no sense: $400 is $400 no matter how much is invested in the truck already. For LESS than $400 the OP can go with a smaller block but upgrade to airbags which will not only lift the rear when unloaded but can level the truck when towing. AAL's are even a cheaper route but could affect ride quality when not loaded (AAL guys can provide their experiences).

Jerhelo, for your situation traction bars would be a band-aid for the root of the problem which are the 5.5" blocks. I like the airbag route for myself but the AAL solution is a cheap and easy way to go and should help with the axle wrap.

Where are you getting traction bars for $400??? More like $600 or $700.....

I have never seen them for that cheap. Plus that is just something else to get hung up on something offroad... I really use my truck, or you could say abuse it....The larger block is just not working for my application. I think the add-a-leaf with a smaller block will be perfect. I am at the point of getting custom leafs but am wanting to put the money into a different project, HOTROD... I only drive this truck about 1,000 miles a year so $230 for some new smaller blocks and an add-a-leaf is the better alternative...I only use this truck when I go camping, hiking, or hunting other than that it sits in the garage. Thanks for the advise though...

I agree, i picked up the 4" block and add-a-leaf today...I have had AAL's before, I think they stiffen up the ride a little but I think it will be ok...Will install probably sometime this weekend....Went to a ballgame tonight had a little to much to drink to hop under a truck....

You may also consider getting a lift spindle via eBay for another 1"-1.5" of lift which in turn means you can go with a smaller block.

Good luck man.

I installed the add-a-leaf this weekend with the stock 2" and procomp 2.5" stacked blocks. I am waiting to see how it settles in, right now I am extactly level if you measure the fenderwells. I am waiting to see if it settles a little and possibly put in a single 4" block. Don't really like the stacked blocks and I have a 4" procomp in my garage which will drop the back about .5"...The add-a-leaf has not dropped at all from Saturday, not even 1/6"...Maybe the flareside weighs a little less because of the fiberglass bedsides...Who knows...
