steering jerk

has anyone run across this or sumthing similiar,im completely stumped,i have a 1992 f-150 4x4,when i got the truck sometimes when you would make a turn it would seem like it did not want to turn back like you actually had to turn it back strait but it wouldnt do this all the time now when im making a turn the wheel seems to get real hard seems like your steering but its not turning then all at once it makes a bumping sound and jerks the truck acts like it turns all at once but then after your turned and straight it seems ok,,,i thought it was the steering box so i changed that but its still doing it just as bad ive checked all the ball joints and i cant find anything.can anyone plz help me in the right direction?

I used to have a 1990 Bronco back in the day. I had this same problem and it was the u-joints in the front axle shafts.

Lower steering shaft. Ujoints dry out. Try spraying it with WD40 and see if that clears it up. You will need a new lower shaft soon though.

See the pic for Lower Shaft
