Add a leaf.....how hard is it

I have a 05 F-150 XLT Supercrew. I just bought a Pro Comp add a Leaf, to level out the 6" that already is on it. I have never done this before, I checked out the install instructions from ProComp, doesnt seem it's very hard....any pointers things I should keep in mind????

Best to get an alignment once done. Removing springs can throw out your thrust angle.

not rocket science, just a matter of perseverance. IF they are long leaves, they can be tedious because you'll need to remove the spring clips holding the stack together, then bend them back on with a hammer and a vicious attitude. after jacking the truck up, you'll need a second jack to maneuver the rear axle up and down to get everything back together easier. one other thing if you got long leaves i can't emphasize enough: have a drift punch on hand! it makes aligning the bolt holes 10x's easier. SHORT leaves on the other hand just pop on...............

What he said. I did the long leaf on my last truck. it was simple, but a bit of a pain. I however did not remove the spring clips, i was worried about breaking them. I greased them up really good and pushed shoved. and beat to get them in. It was a successs, but if i did it again id remove those two clips.

There is nothing to it, Just put jack stand under the frame in front of the front leaf perches and get it up as high as possible. Do one side at a time, unbolt the Ubolts and use the jack to lower the axle. I use clamps to hold the leaf packs together when I unbolt the retention bolts. Loosen the c-clamps to take the packs apart, install the new leaf, tighten the retention bolts using the C-clamps to bring the leaf packs back together and then just reinstall the ubolts. I have done trucks in about an hour and I am a amateur...

Keep in mind your pinion angle as well, there is minimal room for error...Mut there is room....

Its not hard. Just paint mark everything, and prep the threads on your u-bolts with some PB and a wire brush...

explain? you are not messing with the front end at all.

it's relatively easy, but be careful pulling and putting the leaf packs apart and together.

If you do not get the rear end bolted back up in exactly the same spot, your thrust angle will be off. Yes the blocks have a pin, but it is not a perfect fit. There is some play built into it.

A 4 wheel alignment alignment will catch this. Otherwise, the truck will dog track going down the road. If your alignment guy just adjusts front toe, the truck looks goofy going down the road to everybody who is not inside it.

If you don't get it, Google "thrust angle".

Thanks for all the help. I am going to take a go at it next weekend. The aignment was good advise to. Like Big Smokey mentioned, "I figured alignments were for the front only....let you know how it goes, and throw in a picture or two.
