Question Moderately Lifting 2wd?

Im looking to have a taller sitting truck, the 2.5 front daystar isnt enough. Saving money with making sense of doing it is my first priority mainly. To me, with a 2wd I cant really see investing $2k in a suspension lift ($1500+install,then wheels and tires), unless possibly the suspension lift can be installed by me dont know how bad that is.. so a body lift to me only makes sense, for supplying me with the other 2-3 inches Im wanting for the trucks stance. And also installing the lift myself is what I plan on, anyone think of a better way to look at it or what would make it worth buying a suspension lift over a BL?

I found a Skyjacker 6inch online for $1100, body lift at cheapest seems to be low $400s.. but achieving the same look with half the investment with a BL. To me makes sense especially going on a 2wd?

Im not a big fan of a super lifted 2wd like 6+ inches cause I dont like seeing the empty front end. So a body lift wouldnt lead to me adding a suspension lift. Plus with gap guards, side steps and everything fixed right. The body lift can go un-noticable. Anyone have some food for thought?

A 3 inch Performance Accessories body lift is your best choice.

Thanks for the reply Wandell, I do believe after looking into it a little more that a 3bl is definately what I am looking for.

With it being 2wd I definately do not want it crazy lifted such as 6-8 more inches, too me thats goofy for a 2wd truck. I am wanting that high stock appearance that you see with a 4x4 or fx4 has a leveling kit and running stock 20s with meatier tires. My truck even with a 2.5 front leveling kit doesnt really have that look I feel.

I recall having to climb up into my dads 05 f150 Crewcab Fx4 with just a 2.5 front level and I do not climb into mine.

Check out a 3.5 spindle lift for the front and maybe a 2-3 in block for the rear. i have 3.5 spindles, 2 in blocks, and a 3 in bl... and its still not enough for me...

save yourself the time and money and just do the 6" lift first. the body lift will just make you want to go bigger down the road.

Dont think they offer spindle lifts for 04-up 2wd trucks. I have been reading and havnt seen much talk on it for these trucks.

Yeah I understand the save money and do 6 inch bc everyone always wants more when you begin lifting, but too me I dont want a big lifted 2wd, if it was 4wd I would completely agree and I wouldnt do it with a 4wd Id just go ahead and do a 6 inch. But I dont like big lifted 2wds, just wanting a taller stock looking truck ya know.

Yeah now you might say you don't want it too big, but sooner or later you will want more. Trust me it happens to all of us. haha

It all depends on the look your wanting to achieve...

If you like the little lift with bigger stuffed tires or you might like the bigger lift with bigger tires look like I said its all up to you, your going to be the one driving it daily, and I have seen so many trucks with the big 6+ inch lifts with these baby tires on them and it looks like your riding on pizza cutters.

I have a 2wd with the 2.5in HBS level kit and I just got brand new 35's on mine with some cutting required but you cant even tell once everything is all done and it came out very nice.

If your not wanting to break the bank I would say the 3in PA body lift would be your best bet even though Ive heard installing that is a PITA. But its all up to you and how you want your truck to look.

I purchased that Skyajcker 6" off ebay about 2 months ago for my 08 Screw 2x4. Just go for it. If you do 2.5 leveling kits you will just want more. 6" is not crazy high. Just makes your truck bigger than most on the road. The people that really want big trucks will add leveling kits and boday lifts on top of these. Are you wanting to run 33's or 35's? leveling kit you can run 33's but you need a 6" (on 2x4's) to run 35's without cutting half your truck off. For the price you cant beat the kit off ebay. Just have them add the rear shocks, cost me $42 extra, that it. My kit is going on April 15. After buying new rims and tires(18x9 XD monsters & 35/12.5 Nitto trail graps) my truck fund was tapped out so I have had to waiting a month and save somemore. What I am getting at is that 6" is not that big. If you only use a leveling kit on your 2x4 , if your lucky it may be as big as a stock 4x4. Thats doesnt sound like what you want

with stock wheels and a leveling kit you can probably squeeze the correct 35 on. not many do it on here but i've seen a few in person with them. didn't see any trimming but they were definitely a narrower 35 (both had 315/70/17 bfg at's, so not a true 35)

im not a fan of BL's at all, but the time you hide the gaps, move your trailer hitch to fill the gap, raise your exhaust, gap guards, etc you will be getting close to the price of a suspension lift. i'd do a 6" lift and be done with it.

This thread is exactly what ive been thinking about lately. I have a 2wd as well and ive been looking at leveling kits to just make it level but ive really wanted to make it higher on a very noticable scale. What are some great ways to get it up in the air? without draining my life savings or hurting my truck

After leveling the next option is a 6" kit. Rancho makes a 5" kit I think. Got my Skyjacker 6" kit off ebay for $1099. Raising a truck just cost money, there is no good way to get around it. Heres a run down of what everything cost for my current build: Skyjack 6" kit $1099 ebay, 18x9 XD monsters $700 ebay, 35x12.5/18 Nitto trail grapplers $1300 discount tire, install $500, Alignment @ $100---- total=$3699. You can keep stock rims (if your kit allows) to save money. Maybe 33's will save you a little. Hope this helps
