Help with Tie Rod

So just blew my passenger side tie rod. Anyone know how to either replace or repair the rod.? It looks like the end link just came unscrewed from the adjustment sleeve. looks like an easy fix, but I have never done it so I am a little gun shy. Any help would be appreciated....

Are you sure the link didn't snap off of the sleeve? I don't see how it could unscrew from the sleeve unless it was like on one of the last few threads or someone is trying to kill you.

Check the adjustment sleeve to make sure it isn't split or cracked...

I just replaced the passenger side inner and outer tie rod and used a new adjuster.
Mine is a 97 2wd. The parts at autozone with lifetime warranty were around $75.
My inner tie rod was shot and the outer was getting there. The old assembly was so rusted together I was uncomfortable with taking it apart and reusing the adjuster.
Took a little doing to get the ball joint on the old inner tie rod to release, lots of hammering.

do you need an alignment after replacing all the tie rods?

Yes, because more than likely you won't get the tie rod adjusted anywhere close to where it needs to be.

whatabout taking an entire tie rod assembly from an f150 or an expedition from a junk yard? would the measurements still be off?

More than likely. Especially if it's a wrecked vehicle because it isn't that hard to knock an alignment out of spec. Also it's not even worth it to buy junkyard suspension parts. Around my area you can get moog tie rods for around $20 brand new at the parts store. Don't cheap out, an alignment usually runs between $50-$100 and parts especially suspension parts are worth the money for your safety.

that would be awesome for only $20....but moogs are $46.99 for 1 inner and 41.99 for 1 outer...so im looking at around 200 WITHOUT an alignment....whereas junkyard is 15.50 for the whole assembly....i HATE to cheap out but i just did my lift all new ball joints new rotors and hub assemblies..and my money just did a magic trick and disappeared haha

Oh yeah i forgot those were prices on 4x2. On rockauto for the 4x4 the moog outer tie rods are selling for $29 a piece and inners are $33 a piece. Whatever you do, don't go with used parts from the junkyard. Because more than likely you'll just be replacing them in a few months and they might not be any better than whats currently on your truck.
