Replacing struts/springs on a 2006 Expy
The struts and springs on my 2006 Expedition seem to be an integrated unit.
Do they both have to be replaced simultaneously or is there a way to separate them? Some sites I've searched sell just the strut, others have an integrated strut and spring assembly.
Haven't found an answer to this on the interwebs...hence this post
Thanks!

Do they have to be replaced together?? No. Springs are not normal wear and tear items and only usually replaced when something's wrong with them...which should theoretically and hopefully be tens of thousands of miles down the road.
You just need to buy the shock. The whole coil-over assembly does get removed from the vehicle as one unit, but then you take the spring off the old shock and install it on the new shock (off the vehicle). Then reinstall the whole assembly and you're done.
Yes, there are more and more offerings out there that come complete as a whole assembly. This is only to eliminate the need to swap the spring over as it requires a spring compressor and most people don't like dealing with that. Odds are very, very good that the spring on these replacement units is a stock spring and nothings special. IMO, not worth it. Save the money and rend a spring compressor from AutoZone for $0.00, or even take the assembly somewhere and get it swapped.
