Broken Sway Bar End Link

I have a 2003 F150 Screw with 110,000 miles and rarely has been offroad since I got it March 09, it had 91,000 miles at the time. I was just pulling into a dirt parking lot with a couple of potholes going 1-3 mph and I heard a big snap. Turns out it was one of the sway bar links that broke right off the top of the bolt. They were the factory almost plastic feeling ones and I drove it about a mile home and replaced both of the factory ones with lifetime MOOG ones. My question: is this a common thing, my last truck didn't have a sway bar.

This just happened the other day on my 2001 Expy, about the same miles. Will be replacing this week.
