Rear Leaf/Block ideas.

I've got some questions about getting that 8" in the back for when I crank my coilovers. I've seen a couple items on ebay and throughout 4wd websites, but they are starting to get pretty pricey. I really don't want to spend 800$ on leaf springs. I'd like to get rid of my 2.5" block that pro comp sent me. And I was thinking maybe the SkyJacker 4.5" leaf spring. If I take out that 2.5 block and leave my OE block then put the 4.5" leaf on, will it be about right for 8 inches in the front? That doesn't sound right to me, but if you do the math, it is. I've also seen an 8" Atlas Leaf spring on ebay for about 660$ plus 160$ shipping. That's a little outrageous for me. BUT, would it delete my OE block? Can I just remove it and not worry about it? Too many questions I know, but hopefully someone can shine some light on me.

Thanks fellas

Your going to pay out the nose for springs, period. My personal opinion after having a set of deavers off the shelf 4" springs and a set of custom national springs for 10" of lift... I'll never waste my money again! Both ride great but popped, creaked and growned like nobodies business. They both gave 2" more lift than stated (4" came to really lift 6"; and my 10" springs came to 12" once installed. I'm about to chunk these national springs because of the horrendous pop that happens when turning, the fact I have installed them and uninstalled them 3 times to pull springs and replace bushings because they are all screwed up and over lifted..

Don't waste your money on springs.. They ride great but are not worth the price tag or the damn headaches they cause..

What would you do then? I'm asking because I was about to get a set of springs myself. I guess just an AAL and a 6" Rize block will have to do huh?

Honestly I couldn't tell you; and from talking to others not everyone has the issues I have.. Don't let my experiences stop you guys from giving it a go, I seem to be isolated. I'm just throwing it all out there because my experience has not been that great with 2 sets of different springs.

If I was to go custom I would spec them for 2" less than the total amount of lift I wanted (i.e. for 10" of lift total I would get them built for 8") then if I had to I could machine a small block to go with the axle shims that would make up the difference.

These national springs are a huge PIA since I have to 'power pull' them on (getting a come-along and literally pulling the arc out of the springs to install them) and do the reverse to take them off... It's not the best 1200 bucks I ever spent that is for sure.. however SBchris has a set of nationals that are just fine..

From what I hear the skyjacker softride springs run a decent price for a pair of springs, 660 or less at some places. blackplatbds has them on his 09' and it looked like they ran true to size because If I remember right he ran the 6" rize block and the 4" skyjacker springs for his 10". I had the same plan with the deavers I had but ended up 2" too high for some stupid reason... I just machined the rize block down to 4" and went from there..

Atlas or national is going to be your best bet. Deaver won't build anything over 8"... which after my fiasco may have worked for my application Deaver's by far have the smoothest ride I have ever felt, but they will sag like hell with a load on them. National springs are a good compromise, not as smooth but still very good and they don't sag under a load near as bad as the deavers.

I am running a set of 6" Springs from BDS and I am having no troubles with them. They installed easily, just bolted right up, and they ride well. I don't haul much with my truck, just a full size spare, and a toolbox, so I don't know if they would sag easily, but I have no complaints about the ride.
I also run the factory block/bumpstop, which gives me about 8" lift. Cranked up the torsion bars in the front for 8" and it rides level.

Yup, my 11.5 inch nationals are pretty awesome. I did lube every single leaf by hand with grease which is overkill, but I have zero noise/ride complaints from them after doing the tedious job.

The difference in axle wrap between the 6" block and a full size leaf pack, is enough to make me do it all over again and go with the nationals.

You really want that 8" in the back? Seriously, I would never go more than the stock amount of block in the rear. If you want that kind of lift, you're better off going with the Atlas leaf springs.

Unfortunately I think I'm going to have to take mine off, again, and do this too.. What a freaking pain!

Matt, I swapped my normal center pin bolts for some 7 inch center pin bolts and used some big c-clamps to take some tension off of them when I released the center pin bolts. I cut the bolts when I was done as 7 was wayyy too long. I also left the leafs on the truck and it saved a ton of time pulling those things off the truck which is a huge PITA.
