Popping in the front

I have a 2005 screw (4x4) with a 2.5 inch leveling kit. In the past few days I have noticed some popping in the front when I turn when going up a hill or when its flexing some. Im wondering if it seems like a ball joint or upper control arm problem? any input would be appreciated and could you give me some part numbers or websites so I can order the right stuff to fix it

Mine had done that for a year and i never worried about it. Then after i got it aligned it stopped. I dont know exactly what was hitting or how the alignment fixed it, but it did.

to replace the upper balljoints you have to replace the whole control arm anyways. Odds are if your trucks an 05 its probably time for new balljoints anyways.

How many miles do you have on your truck? The 97-10's go through ball joints pretty quick.

when turning either way in my f150 I hear a loud 'pop' or 'crack' every rotation of the wheel. Is this what you are hearing? It has a 3" leveling kit up front for about a year now, so if I talking the leveling kit off will it stop making the noise?

All of my ball joints were replaced under warranty at about 56,000 miles on my Screw. At 82k, you got better than average life outta them.

check your lower control arm bolt it might be loose allowing enough gap to move a little, do you have the camber kit.

Bad sway bar links will cause some strange popping on side-to-side movement, too.

Pretty positive its your upper balljoints, especially due to your mileage and that you have a 2.5" spacer. The OEM bjs are not greasable or serviceable, so replace both UCAs with aftermarket ones with grease fittings. I like Moog stuff and check out rockauto.com. Also if it were me (and it was at one time!), I'd replace the lower bj's while I was in there.

It may be the last time you have to worry about your bjs for the rest of the life of your truck...

Note: There were some helpful vidoes on You Tube regading bj replacement so search and check it out.

Let us know how this goes because I have the exact same situation. 2005 with 2.5 AS for about 2 years and I have the popping in the front now too.

I have an 05 2wd with daystar 2.5" spacers leveling kit. It has been on for about 3 years and now it has started to make a popping noise when turning either direction. At first i thought it was my ball joints, so i replaced them with moog but the noise continued. I think my control arm is rubbing so I started looking at the bilstein 5100 leveling kit which would level it to 2" and improve my angles. Does anyone have any recommendations of something more i should check or about the 5100's. I just don't want to spend the money and not fix the problem.

Thanks
