Tie-rod removal and installation advice needed

I'm about to replace the inner and outer tie rod ends on my '97 4.6l 2wd. I'm wondering if there is any information out there that I could check out to make the job a little easier for me. I've searched on the forum but haven't been able to find the answers I'm looking for. Like #1. Should I have the truck up on jack stands with the suspension hanging freely or should I leave the truck on all fours and have pressure on it to remove and install the tie rod ends? 2. Is my tie rod what I use to correct my toe-in? 3. If answer for #2 is yes, then is there a basic measurement I should go by to get my toe-in as good as possible until I can get an alignment done at a shop? 4. Is changing the tie-rod ends a pretty straight forward, basic/simple job? Any advice will be greatly appreciated!!
