Angry 04-08 front shock R&R

2007 F150 XL,63K miles

I had my tires rotated and balanced this morning.Tire tech/mechanic pointed out my front inner tires were cupped and said it was due to wore out front shocks! He said he replaces them weekly on F150s and Expys. Has anyone else had this problem and is it easy to replace them.I've never done strut type shocks before!

How many miles? Seems odd that the cupping is on the inside...sounds more like a ball joint and alignment issue. If you decide to change the shocks it's not too hard a process but you'll need a spring compressor to get the shocks out of the spring assembly once it's removed from the truck. For details, download a suspension lift install instructions (like Rancho) since shock assemplies are taken apart and reassembled for the lift install.

I don't know if it's your shocks or something else causing your cupping but at 63k miles your shocks are worn out. Shocks wear slowly over time so you can't really tell when they go bad.

If your inner tire is wearing you need an alignment. If the strut is bad the whole tire would show cupping. Been there before with a car.

For whatever reason these 04-up F150's are bad on front tires.

I took my truck into my local Ford dealer today. All it needed was an alignment, and the shocks were ok.
