please help me make a decision on what size kit to buy 2 or 2.5 inch, I don't tow much at all or put a heavy load in my box, I will be installing the bfg 285/65/20 any input is much appreciated. Oh yeah does the add a leaf make the truck more stiff, cause if I go go with 2.5 everyone seems to add a rear leaf.

 

i would just go 2.5 to get the clearence needed. why not? they dont bind the ball joints much and aal will make the rear stiffer but more level than without.

2.5 with aal will be an actual level truck nicely which would look bi*^#n!

 

I went through the couldnt decide stage for about 2 months. Finally I just went with it. Got the 2" AS kit and am very happy with it. To me the 2.5 is to much. I've heard more people having problems out of the 2.5 then I have with the 2". If you are wanting to be a bit higher in the front than the rear go with the 2.5" or you will HAVE to get a AAL or a block. If you want to be pretty level right after install with no rear work get the 2". You can still go higher in the rear with a 2" but you will have a tad bit of rake.
The AAL does make the ride stiffer but allows for more towing weight. The block on the rear does nothing for towing but will raise the back without messing with the factory ride.

2.5 all the way, look at my pictures, it sits perfectly level, if ur going to spend the money, it might as well make ur truck level

 

Mine sits level with a 2.0" autospring kit. I'm also running 285/65/20 tires.

The 04's usually need a 2 1/2" kit because the rear sat so high from the factory. My truck still has a little rake even with the 2 1/2" kit.

How much higher is the rear than the front. That should tell you what you need to know. Some needed 2" for leveling, some need 2.5". Measure yours and that should tell you what you need.

 

My 06 Skrew 2 wheel drive sits dead level with a 2" AS. If you do the 2.5 I think you need to AAL to make it look right. I've seen trucks that sit higher in the front and it looks silly.

 

why does ford build them with a rake? what's that about?

i like the look of a leveled truck, but other than looking good, does leveling it do anything for offroad performance?

 

you get the rake mainly for towing, you dont want to be towing with your nose sky high. plus it gives them a chance to put a more aggressive rear leaf set-up to handle weight.

with a level you get some added ground clearance and allow bigger tires. thats about it. doesnt add travel or flex like that.
