DBR long arm travel kit
DBR long arm travel kit
WEll guys i am highly thinking of going this route. i deploy to Dubai soon and i am planning on maybe doing a long arm travel kit. it loooks outstanding but i am just trying to rationalize biting the big @$$ bullet. I know i really wont have too much use for it. the body lift kit is getting removed and i will either be doing this or a 6'' lift kit. i know that with pricing the 6'' will be alot cheaper. but i am going wanting in the long run to turn this truck into my play truck if i can talk the wife into letting us get a FX2 sport. IN other word i will go with a 6'' or maybe even 8'' i just really want to know whats the best brand to go with and what is the best shock to go with in terms of off roading.. not mudding off roading like sand dunes mtns stuff like that all info is greatly appreciated and like and dislikes also.. thanks
And dont forget that none of those companies include the rear, so you might want to look into deaver or national for rear leaves. most people will suggest King,Sway-A-Way or Fox for coilover and shocks. i'd also look into FOA out of vegas. they've apparently come a long way and have gotten decent reviews from the people ive talked to.
As for needing that in porsmouth i dont see it. i live in virginia beach right now so i just have the bolt on fabtech. i move to san diego soon so might in long away future look into doing a long to midtravel kit.
let us know what you decide. good luck in dubai. i just got back from my second tour in iraq. bought the truck 1st deployment and lifted it 2nd deployment.

search for threads by user LOLITO F-150. He switched from a bolt-on fabtech kit to the long travel Dixon Brothers Racing kit. I believe he is running the deaver springs in the back. He is among the few true prerunner truck owners on this board.
yeah ill talk to him and se what all he did. and yeah besids the lift whichever way i go i am gonna build me a custom trailer out of a f150 bed and match paint and tires and lift just somthing i think is gonna be cool...

sounds pretty cool, just don't make it look red neck lol every trailer i have seen that is made out of a truck bed looks terrible. but i am sure that you could use the shape of the bed of our trucks and it'd turn out good.
i vote long travel over a 6" if you have the money, eventually i want to have a built pre-runner, most people around me run a 6" lift in the front then a 1 or 2" lift in the rear and slap on some fiberglass fenders and pre runner light bar with a set of tires mounted in the bed and think their the ****.

hehe yeah i hear ya. i hope the trailer turns out good. i am just looking for a good setup that wont exactly break the bank.... as i am looking this kit keeps adding up lol...
if your plan is to be non expensive then get a bolt on 6". if you try to go the cheap route on a long travel you will regret it. it will look like SH** and perform even worse. building a prerunner is not cheap by any means. my friend has over $5,000 just in his 9in rear end. thats the price of a fabtech plus wheels and tires.

well i am not by any means going to go cheap with the long arm if i go that route but since i am taking the body lift off i might go with the rize kit 8'' if i go standard suspension... can i get some info on people that have bought it before...
Long travel and cheap should not be in the same sentence. Spending 10K is easy for a legit long travel kit, bypass shocks, coil-over shocks, bump stops, bed cage, fiber glass fenders and bedside, etc..

Cheap and desert racing don't mix. Also get a budget, got it? Now double it! What do you wanna do with your truck? Look good and haul butt or just stand tall looking good? As with a long travel setup you can have a 6 to 8 inch lift yet won't perform well or be equal to stock ride height. All depends what you wanna do with the truck. You looking to just take it out and cruise in the desert? Or plan on building it into a all out toy? The camburg long travel front end with race hubs and everything is 15K for everything. Than the back end is a whole nother story. List goes on and on. Just depends what you are looking to do with it.
well i am planning on making it somewhat of a toy slash everyday driver i am just trying to figure out now if doing the full on long arm travel kit is what i want to do or go with a good lift kit with some good shocks. i want height and comfort but i also want to be able to take it out and abuse it some with out having to worrry about somthing going wrong or having problems.. not loking to go reallly drastic but stuff along the lines that OGTERROR does bubt with more care to the body of the truck i am gonna be getting money from my deployment i dont have a constant large sum coming in like he does but i wish i did..i love his 8'' rize kit but he seems to be having alot of trouble with it as far as upper control arms and things messing up mechanically.. is this just due to how normal wear and tear or is how the setup is?? i want to be able to clear obstacle and do some fun off roading mild mudding its just to much of a pain to clean after a good day of mudding lol.. i mena i guess i am really not set on either side just looking for a nudge in the right direction...
