Crooked leaf (pics)

When I go over spead bumps I hear a clunk noise in the rear driverside underneith my truck when I go over speed bumps. This just started happening the past 2 days. This morning I went to investigate and this is the only thing I could see out of the normal. It's a 2002 2wd.

Could this be the problem and what would cause it? Can it be fixed with a sledge hammer?

You could straighten them out if you wanted to. As long as they are on there for the most part it should not really hurt anything. I would straighten them just for a peace of mind though. Mine were the same way, but I just loosened the U bolts and then pushed them back in and tightened it all back up

Check your U bolts on the other side. I did this to mine after I accidently jumped a field entrance. Bent the right side U bolts and shifted the left spring pack. U bolts from O reilys $30 and a sledgehammer.

Thats just your overload so it might just needa little tappy tap. Heard of guys using hose clamps on spring packs but I wouldnt.

I dont think that is the cause of your clunk unless there is a poblem causing that spring to shift.

Is your truck Dog tracking?
Maybe a shock is busted on the inside.
sometimes a hanging drum brake will "clunk" at odd times.

just some ideas hope it helps.

Man, this must be pretty common, my 1999 did the same exact thing in the same place! But no noise though, just something on the TO DO list...

common, and thats not an issue assuming the Ubolts are tight and all that

thats just part of the reason Ford went to a twin center pin design in the leaf pack for the 04-08 + trucks

Just an update, thanks for the replies.
So it wasn't the leafs after all. Heres what I've been driving on until I decided to replace my shocks today. I unbolted the bottom and the whole thing fell to the ground.

I get a strange noise over bumps also. Glad you got your problem fixed man. I think mine is some missing shims between the frame and the bed...

Kots,

Did replacing the shocks solve the clunk noise? I have the same noise and can't seem to track it down.
