I have a 2005 STX 4wd. I'm going to put a suspension lift on when I get back from Afghanistan, and I need to know at what height do I have to worry about regearing? Or is that something that has more to do with larger tires? (Something that I'd be putting on as well since I'm getting the lift.)
Also I saw something about "re-weighting" the steering column. What on earth does that mean? And at what point does that become an issue?

Yep, 35 inch tires is usually the limit. Depending on your engine and gear ratio and how you use the truck you may or may not need to regear with 35's (I didn't). With 37's or larger it becomes a necessity.
Awesome responses, y'all I appreciate it. What about the reweighting of the steering column? Has anyone heard anything like that before? I would post the link to the post I saw it in, but now I cannot find the thing.

I've not heard of that either (reweighting the steering). I had 35's on my 04 with a leveling kit and a 3" body lift. I had no problem turning them with 3.73 gears. Of course I added a CAI, Magnaflow SIDO, and Troyer custom tuning. I could spin the tires if I wanted but they were too expensive to do that a lot.
Unless you are thinking of rebalancing the drive shaft. Some folks might get a vibration depending on how high the lift is. It seems to me that the supercabs have a better balanced shaft than the supercrews and it wouldn't need to be balanced. When you lift the rear end of the truck you are dropping the diff a little further from the truck, which pulls the drive shaft out of the trans a little. Maybay an inch or so. This might lead to the vibration where you need to rebalance or replace the shaft.
Rebalancing the drive shaft. Yes, thank you. Like I said, it would have been easier if I could have found the post, but so be it. And I don't intend to go over 6 inches, not sure my garage could handle it!
