Koni I would recommend for racing only due to the price
Bilstein is a very good shock, but for most street hipo driving KYB delivers everything you need for a lot less money.
Gabriel- a nice oem HD replacement shock.
Actually the KYB Monomax (which is a monotube shock) is underrated and comparable to the Bilstein's but are actually more expensive.

I would rate them this way as far as popularity and price with what we carry (although it's still going to be personal preference ultimately):

1. Bilstein
2. Rancho
3. KYB
5. Edelbrock
4. Monroe

I'm running the Bilstein HD's front and rear mainly because I tow pretty heavy trailer's sometimes. The 5100's are a longer travel shock and not quite as stiff as the HD's. I don't find the HD's ride too rough at all, just a little stiffer than stock but with better side control and able to handle the large tires on my truck much better than the stock shock's.

I am not 100% on the how the ride height adjustment works, other than it is a clip system, but does the ride quality change from the stock position to the the 2" leveled position?

By theory, there is a tonne more spring rate with them raised?
