Broken Spring?

I noticed that my '03 FX4 tilts to the left. After researching , I find a lot of people are having this same problem. I examined the rear springs and found that the drivers side spring looks diff than the right side. The small spring on the bottom that has the rubber attached to it is sticking out about an inch. The other end is not as bad but it sticks out about 1/4". Toward the same side! Does this sound like it's broken? Can I just have this one piece replaced?

I have a 03' Supercrew F150 (not 4x4) and mine does the same leans to the left. I'm not sure what it is but I've had people tell me its because the gas tank is on the drivers side. Not sure I belive this because it doesn't seem to have been like this before. I've measured from ground up and the driver side is 1" lower than the passenger.

If you're talking about your overload (short, fat bottom spring) chances are it isn't broken but just moved a little bit and a hand sledge can take care of this problem rather easily. After a few years almost all trucks lean to the left because there is always someone in the driver seat and people tend to load on this side as well because it's closer to them. It probably is time for new springs but you can easily crawl under your truck and look for a crack or break in the spring.

Thanks for the info guys. Today I measured from the shackle straight to the concrete on both sides and get and I get about 1 inch difference. I don't know anything about springs but it does look like the smoking gun and explains the lean to the left even with an empty tank.
Can anyone recommend a reliable spring company for replacement springs?

I have an '03 F150 FX4 Reg Cab. At the General Spring site they offer two 2/1 springs with spring capacities of 1180 and 1455. They also offered a 3/1 @ 1900 capacity. I want to maintain the same ride height but get a better ride. Anybody know which spring would best fit same ride height/comfort.

the 2/1 sounds more like a stock setup and the 3/1 is heavy duty use....

You could always rotate the springs from L to R and in another 5 years is should sit even again

the 2/1 will most likely give you a softer ride than the 3/1.

dont know what capacity comes stock, but the lower rated one will probably be the softest spring.

you may get a little height out of the new springs simply because theyre new and havent started to sag. they should be designed to keep you at stock height, whether thats where the truck sits now or if the rear has sagged a little.

Thanks guys,

I'm going to try to find what the original specs were for the FX4 springs.

Have you measured in the front? Measure the distance from the center of the front fender lip to the ground on both sides. Then adjust the torsion bars so both sides are even. Joust the truck up and down a few times few times before you measure. Adjust the nut on the Torsion bar adjuster bolt till both sides are even. Then go back and measure the rear.
