What kind of lift?
What kind of lift?
I'm looking for a 6" lift for my '04 f150 (fx4). I plan on doing a good bit of highway driving but some offroading as well (wooded trails and lots of swampy mud). Can anyone give me some suggestions for some good lifts?
A shop with a decent reputation around here offers this rough country 6" lift installed for about $2300 http://www.roughcountry.com/ford_4wd_f150_6.html. Is it a good lift and is that a decent price?
I also have the option of buying my own lift kit and having him install it for me. Is there a better lift kit for what I plan on doing?
Help! Any suggestions and advice is very much appreciated.
Edit: Thanks for all the help so far. Also, here's a picture of my truck before the new lift and wheels/tires:

From what people have said on here is to stay away from the rough country kit, you could get a fabtech or procomp they are good kits, i personally have the procomp its been fine, no problems, only thing with procomp is they use a big spacer up front, but i took that out and got some fabtech coilovers
I installed a rough country on a family member's Dodge about 2 years ago. It is used mostly on the highway, but has not had any problems in that time. I think it is comparable to ProComp which a lot of people use and like.
I installed my lift on my '06 F-150, so I'm not sure what the going rate is for an install at a shop, but if they are quoting $2,300 and you can get the lift elsewhere for $1,200.... I think $1,100 for the install is a pretty high installation cost. I'd definitely shop around a bit. Or ask them how much they would charge for an install if you provided the lift of your choice.

x2... look around, or recheck and see what they would do the install for if you provided the lift... That is pretty pricey for just install - body lift installs are a lot more to install than suspenion (just to throw that out there). A local shop quoted me 850 just for install on a body lift - so 1100 bucks for suspension install is pretty high. I don't see any problem with the rough country, I've never heard anything bad about them - only people who don't have them speculating about them. There are a few members on here that lift. Only a few, but they seem to like them a lot. If i run across one of them on the site I'll give you their name. Hope you get everything works out!
i seen a magazine with a write-up on the rough country and it looked a lot like the pro-comp but with a better looking crossmember..... it does use a big o'l spacer up front but so does pro-comp stage 1 . for the price rough country doesn't seem bad..i love my fabtech .
i wouldn't pay $2300 for a rough country. not saying its a bad lift, but you should be able to get it installed for $1800-$1900. local shop is $1850 for it installed. i paid $2100 for my BDS installed, a fabtech can be had for $2300 installed.
Looks like if I go fabtech I'm spending AT LEAST $2000 plus an install (around $3000 total). That seems really high?
