Replacing Ball Joints

So I need to replace my ball joints. apparently after 100k they are junk. Are there any tips or tricks to changing these? When i got my fluids flushed the mechanic said i needed them pretty bad, but i dont want to pay $65 an hour on a job i can do myself in the driveway. Ive done ball joints before, but never on 4x4 or a truck for that matter. where should I order them from? Ive seen kits on ebay for roughly 200, but if there is a brand I should look for let me know. Thanks

i dont no about 4wheel drives but 2wheel drives requires you to replace the upper control arm for the uppers. the bottoms press in. deffinatly rent the press. it dosen't take long at all.

just a note the ball joints and tie rod ends pop out with a few good hits on the steering knuckle no forks or pullers needed. just make sure to hit the knuckl only.

well i tried to replace one of them today because ive been having a noise coming from the left front. cant get the ball joint to break lose. ended up breaking a hammer trying to get it lose. which really sucks because the hammer hit me in the head and busted me open lol. went and got the forks to try to break it, bent the forks. this bastard is stuck

which ball jiont are you trying to get out. the top one is part of the control arm, and the whole arm has to be replaced. the bottom one has to be pressed out, which you can rent the press from autozone. the only thing you use the hammer on is the steering knuckle which has to be removed first.
