Body Lift install hints and tips...
I'm pretty sure my torsion bars are cranked slightly. The previous owner did this, not me. The only thing I rub on is the tie rods at full lock turning right.
1. Yeah, it's sketchy if you use hockey pucks and wood blocks
2. No you won't, mine have been tight since day 1
3. That's what gap guards are for chief. **** getting stuck? Never heard of that one
4. I don't know about that, but I can tell you the hardware given to you is some pretty thick ****. I've never heard of a cab flying off the frame or anything ridiculous like that either, so until that happens, don't need to worry about it. I beat the **** out of my truck and nothings happened yet.
5. They look cheap if you do a half assed job
Have you ever installed or had a body lift? Doesn't sound like it.
1. YOU ARE LIFTING THE BODY OFF THE FRAME. The concept itself is a sketchy thought.
2. You will always have to recheck and retorque the body bolts.
3. There is now a 3" gap in between the body and frame for God knows what to get stuck in.
4. If you relocate bumpers, you lose ALL factory integrity for impact.
5. They look cheap, becuase they are cheap.
That's all I can think of at the moment. I am sure I can some up with some more if I try hard enough.

After what you qouted from me, do you think I have ever had a body lift? I dont half do anything. If you find yourself needing extra clearance for tires, then you should have lifted bigger in the first place.

There is no lift bigger than 6" that utilizes the stock IFS for our trucks, so to get higher your only option would be a body lift or something custom. Custom usually means a SAS, and a lot more time, money and effort to go along with it. So yes, your right. If he wanted to fork out another 2k+, then why not skip the BL and do a SAS. But I think the OP wanted a less expensive alternative to getting a few more inches of clearance.
yea i guess the only other alternative for me right now is to cut fenders...but that gets expensive when buying the flares and stuff...so i think im gonna stick to the BL.
but doesnt rize make like a 10" lift for our trucks...and that keeps the IFS right? i guess it doesnt matter cause i dont have that money either.

I wouldn't advise cutting fenders where it was noticable, doesn't always look too great unless you get the pre-runner fenders. I don't think Rize makes a 10" lift for the '97-'03 body style though, just the '04+.
But you'll be happy with your BL, I'm kind shocked myself your running 38s with just a 6" lift though. Never knew it was possible without not being able to move your steering wheel

I also had body lifts on my previous two trucks. Both were name brand kits (Performance Accessories).
1) I've seen many accident pictures involving rangers with body lifts. No seperations, no broken mounts, etc. This includes rollovers of all sorts.
2) Having re-checked bolts a few times on both trucks, neither of them had come loose at all as I properly torqued and loc-tited them the first time. Both of my trucks were used hard and both had caught are more than once at the dunes.
3) Between gap guards and bumper location kits, the body lifts on most trucks are not noticeable if installed properly. Yes you will see more frame underneath, still less than the average stock Chevy. I also had my receivers (front and rear) on my last truck modified to sit tight against the bumpers with my body lift.
4) The bumper relocation brackets in both kits were heavier and beefier than the stock brackets.
5) "If you do a half-assed job".... Exactly. So does anything.
I prefer suspension lift to body lift like anyone, but there is nothing really wrong with them either. If the goal is to fit bigger tires, it works. Done right, they look just fine.

i see alot of body lifts on trucks on the road. but no body around here that i know of puts gap guards in. i just dont like it when there is the gap in the rear. but other than that i dont see a problem with them. some kids i know in my school wheel their trucks hard with body lifts and dont have any problems.

.and i dont know anything about Rize so your probably right

and i guess everyone that has the 6+3 combo with 38s dont have any rubbing....and i am just on the edge of that, i have a 6+2" torsion and i have little rubbing. So i will be close to 11" of lift on the truck after the BL...and i think i might see about tightening the torsion a little bit to help it level a little bit...still a little high in the back i think. but i will do that after i get rid of the blocks and put on springs and see where it is at.
thanks for all the help, advice, suggestions and the helpful hints and tips. I am going to see about ordering the BL either tomorrow or monday and maybe put it in over the weekend. I will definetly post up my own hints and tips after i do it and will let yall know how it goes.
but if anyone has any more hints and tips, i wont be doing it for another week so they would still be helpful
I had a body lift on my 05 wrangler and am putting one on my girls friends jeep this weekend, there great cause there cheap but i did know a guy in high school that installed on on his tacoma and off roaded the hell out of it. any ways he was going down a dirt road ( really fast) and hit a good size rock or tree, and the hole CAB flew off the frame... though it was funny my self.
