Thanks to Pat, you now see what mine looks like. Setting the shocks at the 2in level will give you what you want. IMO the 1in would not justify getting these expensive shocks.

No no, I meant 1" lift for the back/rear end to maintain a small rake with a 2" lift at the front.
I'm not getting these shocks strictly for the lift BTW. I'm due for new shocks anyway. The back is too bouncy. When I push down on the back and let it go, it bounces a good 3 times. I notice it when I'm driving as well. I have 65 k km's(40k miles) on the truck now.

Your truck looks great BTW.

DId everyone install the shocks them selves? or did you have a shop do it?? I am wondering how hard it is to do by your self.

From what I have been told the rear shocks are real easy to change out. The fronts would be more difficult. I had the dealer install mine. I didn't have the time or ambition to do it myself.

Thanks all. The pics were great.

Seems from the few pics I saw, that the shock life gives the LEAST lift. Even if it is nominal. Some people 2" kit looked to high. This looks just right.. Still dont understand how a shock can lift a truck. Can anyone explain?

Here's the deal.
The spring is what carries the load of the truck.
The spring height and rating is what sets the height, or lift, of the truck.

Bilstein, when they designed the 5100 series "strut", engineered an adjustable lower spring perch into the strut body.
It can be at the lowest setting, factory height, or a 2" higher setting, for a 2" lift.
So the strut, by itself is not creating the lift, but is mounting the spring higher on the strut body, enabling a lift.

Make any sense?

Ahh, I gotcha... Some say that the shocks have multipul settings on them. Is that so?

Dont some companies make shocks with "threaded" bodies that allow you what ever lift you want?

Jus worried because some of the pics look like the trucks sit to high in the front...

The Bilstein's have two or three height settings.

Thee are shocks that are adjustable, they have a spanner nut that you can adjust toget the desired height. Fox is one company, however these are very high dollar.

With other adjustables like Fox, I'd imagine that you'd have to get an alignment done everytime you adjusted them, so what's the benefit? When I get my alignment once I have my Bilsteins set where I want, I don't want to have to go back for an alignment everytime I make an adjustment, not that the Bilsteins are adjustable anyway, well, not without taking everything apart anyway.

Ok as promised I have pictures before and after of my truck now.

Before = stock wheels and tires (275/65/18) with Bilstein 5100 shocks set to stock setting.

After = stock wheels on BFG AT's (305/65/18) with Bilstein 5100 shocks set to 2" setting.

I will post these in my gallery and try to figure out how to post on this thread.
