stock wheels with fabtech
skeeter_usaf- kill your self. you have no idea what you are talking about at all. The suspension from 04-08 is the EXACT SAME THING!!! thats why when you order a lift you don't specify year besides 04-08. Your the one he doesn't need to listen to. With that out of the way lets move to your question of if i am trying to kill myself. you say the stock 20 inch wheel size is 7.5 inches wide. WRONG AGAIN. they are 20x8.5 Now if you go over to procomps web site and look at my tire specs 8.5 is the smallest you can safely go stated by procomp. Do you think procomp, a multi million dollar company, would put a rim size that is hazardous to your health on their website? They never would. So now thats two strikes lets move on to the spacers. I went to kauffman tire another multi million dollar company to get my truck taken care of. They are the ones that recommended the 1/4" plates and installed them. Do you think they would do that if it was dangerous. Further more you believe that 1/4" off the hub creates an amount of stress that can snap the lugs and make my wheel fall off. I mean come on now. Your the type of person a newer person to trucks needs to stay away from. You have no idea. You could really get some one stuck 1600 miles from home. I do my research before i respond to a thread. I make sure i dont make comments like you.
C-huck- You had an intelligent question that i too was wondering about. I know the 4x4 spindles are different from the 2x4 because the 4x4's are longer and have a hole in the middle for the axle to come through. When i had my stock tires and wheels on the truck there was a good inch of clearance. This is just a guess but i doubt the 4x4 spindles sticks out a full inch more than the 2x4 spindle. I would say thats an impossibility. I can say with 99.99% assurance that you will have no problems.

That is a 2wd with the 7.5 inch wide lariat 18's on a 6" fabtech.
Bottom line is it will work as long as you get your suspension re aligned after the install for the long trip. If you want you could always come down to GA and ill throw it on there for you. Ill charge way less than a shop.
No matter what you do good luck i hope it all works out for you

OK dacula first of all so what if he got it wrong. Dont be flaming on other ppl bc they got something wrong. Thats what this site is for bc how many ppl replied to his question and he got the right one so how about you chill out. We all learn new stuff every other day on this thread. So relax there killer bc im sure you dont know everything either.
haha thanks for the offer daculatruck50 but GA might be a little too far.... i think what i'll do is just buy 1/4" spacers just incase the rims won't fit , just so i don't have to run big new mud tires down the hiway for 1700 miles.... how does that sound , that should solve my problem eh!
actually he started the so called "flaming" by trying me saying i was committing suicide by running a 1/4" spacers and 12.5" wide tires on a 8.5" rim. Differences in the suspension from 04-08? really? I only respond when my facts are straight period. So your right i dont know everything but i sure dont respond in the care & detailing thread or the transmission thread because i dont know jack about those things. He needs to stop spreading false info. Period.
i was just joking man and yea if you bring the 1/4" spacers you will have no problems for sure 100% guaranteed. Im telling you though it will have to re aligned. I had to get on the freeway with my new lift and stock tires with no alignment and i was scared to do 40 it was shaking so bad. But with an alignment you will be good to go.
yea the alignment is beeing done at the same shop as soon as the lift is done......any idea how much spacers are? and do i need spacers on all 4 corners or just the fronts?
First of all I said your committing suicide of you are running a tire that wide on a 7.5 rim. You say you have 8.5 good for you. Mine was 7.5 and it wouldn't work. I am not spreading false info. Your the one stating it worked on yours so it should work on everybody's. This guy has to drive 1700 miles straight so I would be damn sure to do some more research before you took off on adventure like that. And your the idiot. How am I going to get him stuck 1600 miles from home saying it won't work? IMO I was preventing that. Anyone on here will tell you that spacers are not 100% reliable!!!!!!!!
Oh and by the way genius I know the suspension is the same on 04-C F-150's I was talking about the rims. Mine is a 2007 and had 18 X 7.5 and the suspension lift would not work because of the backspacing.
FYI, It is pretty standard for people to run 12.5 wide tires on 8" wheels. I know personally dozens of people who do, and hundred on other forums that I'm on. They sit much better than a 10" wheel if you air down offroad too. I also know of quite a few trucks out there running 12.5 tires on 7" wide wheels even. I wouldn't recommend it so much though, only because they will wear more in the center. I wouldn't be concerned at all about running a 12.5 wide tire on 7.5 wheels though. The manufacturers may not recommend it because of tire wear (wearing down the center slightly more), but you're not going to have balancing problems or anything weird like that, and definitely not going to blow a tire or pop a bead just because the wheel is 7.5" wide. You will just wear the center out a little sooner, but it's not going to damage anything.
"I am not spreading false info."-
That is a complete and total lie.
1. You told him his rims were 7.5 inches wide and they are not.
2. You are saying that the rims from year to year are different and they once again are not. All 17's and 18's (besides maybe the 7 bolt ones) are 7.5 inches wide and the 20's are 8.5 inches wide.
3. I understand you were saying it would be suicide only on a 7.5 inch wheel but you were claiming (falso info) that the OEM 20's were 7.5 inches wide.
-Stock 20's on any 12.5 all-terrain (Mud Grapplers might have a rubbing problem because of the huge side walls) will work on any 04-08 2wd 6" fabtech w/ 1/4" plates period. The trucks are not any different suspension wise. What works on mine will work on anybodys. A problem could possibly arise on a 4wd cause i havn't worked on one but i give it a .01% possibility.
-You say i need to do research?? You need to check my threads started and look for yourself to see if i have not dont enough research but who knows the people i have been talking to could be exactly like you and my truck might fall apart on the way home this evening. Doubt it but maybe...right?
-Oh and about the 1/4" spacers. Make your way on over to the wheel and tire thread and check out all the people running them to keep the 35x12.5 off their upper control arm.
-Oh and i never said you would get him stuck in this situation "genious". I prevented that. I was talking about future threads you might respond to that I might not be able to patrol the false info you might spread. However i do understand you want to steer everyone clear of 1/4" spacers cause they are deathtraps.
-One final thing- I saw a picture of your truck and i really like it. Very well done and executed. I wish you the best of luck in getting home and enjoying it. Thank you for your service and God Bless.

The Fabtech kit is engineered for a 35" tire, on a 17" wheel, with no more than 5" of back space. Measure your back space. Ford puts many different configurations of wheels and tires onto these trucks. But most of the OE wheels have too much back space to fit with this kit. You may not be able to even bolt the wheels up to with the new lift components installed.

OK first of all this is getting way out of hand. Secondly, I will be the first to apologize if I gave up some false info and made you think you were the one giving the false info. The fact of the matter still remains that we were both trying to help the guy and instead probably confused the hell out of him. I am sorry if you took what I said in the wrong text. I was just trying to help and so were you. I was just saying what I have expereinced and you were doing exactly the same. No hard feelings here.
Also thanks for the compliment on my truck and service. I should be home after the new year, besides I am a Georgia boy too. Born and raised in Cairo, Ga. Just live in Tampa because of the military.
Hey man i hear you. We were both trying to help. I guess i did take what you said the wrong way. I had done alot of research on the topic and had completed something similar on my truck so i was just giving him my experiance. I had put alot of time into it and when you said it was commiting suicide i was just offended. But its all good. If he is worried to much about the difference of 4x2 vs 4x4 spindles then he shouldn't do it but it worked for me so i can almost guarantee it will for him. But i will admit the spindles are different so there is a chance it wouldn't work but it is very very small especially if he brought the 1/4" plates.
- On a side note i play basketball down at GCSU, i dont know if you are familiar with that college and the assistant coach there is from Cairo, GA. He talks about it all the time. He misses it like crazy. Must be a good place. You need to get back home and enjoy that truck. Nothing beats a 04-08 lifted f-150. Period.
