Lifted 2wd...what shocks?

Hey guys I have a 02' 2wd supercab with a 3" spindle lift and a 1/1.5" coil spacer (dont remember for sure). Anyway my truck now has 110,000 miles and I am thinking the stock shocks are about ready to be replaced (truck still drives fine but is starting to squeak like crazy). My question is that it doesnt have much down travel, I think that the coil spacers are the cause, BUT I am thinking about getting rid of the spacers and getting 2" lift springs. Should I be buying longer shocks, or just go with the same oem length? Also which shocks offer the best ride? I drive it mostly around town and would really like to keep the stock like ride (everyone says that bilstein is the best, BUT I heard they are a lot stiffer than oem)?

I think you will need oem length shocks. The Bilsteins have the best reputation.

thanks for the imput guys...I know bilsteins are the biggest name and are definetly a quality shock, but from what I have heard they are going to be quite a bit stiffer in the small stuff, but better offroad. This isnt my main concern as its on the street 99% of the time. PS we have Fox coilovers and triple bypass on our sandcar, BUT I am not going to spend that kind of money on this truck. Any ideas for a better street shock.

Hey MXR181, do you have pics of your truck with that set up? I am looking at my brothers 2wd supercab '03 and would love to see what your truck looks like. Thanks!

I like the Dirt Logic that comes from Fabtech. When I got the lift, I was open minded. I figured that if I didn't like them, I could just replace them. But as it turned out, I love the way they ride. Of course, to be fair, I got the stage 2 kit with the coilover, which is a step up from the basic stage 1.

I agree. Rancho offers an excellent value priced shock. I've got some on my Explorer and they ride great. My mechanic & I were talking about how he likes to steer customers towards Rancho when they don't want to spend a lot of money. Sure, there are shocks that offer a better ride. But Rancho is the "best bang for the buck". In the same price range, would you rather ride Monroe?

in my experience the stock shocks are too short once you put a coil spacer in there. on my 97 and my 00 i had to jack up the lower a arm to get the shock to reach the holes. I replaced my shocks with parts store replacements and they were too short. i just put bilstein 5100's in the rear of my truck that has a 3" block and i love the ride. stiff like a truck but more than supple over bumps and holes and such. im saving up to put the same in the front. i have the same front end setup as you do and ill be going with the bilsteins for a 2" lift.
