I hit a HUGE bump
jack the front end up
check the balljoints.. tie rods.. have someone get in the truck and turn the wheel while you watch the idler arm pitman arm etc. etc.
or take it to have an alignment and tell them to check over it before they do it

After coming up over a ridge, I came down on top of a rock (couldn't see a damn thing, obviously), wasn't a pleasant sound to hear, but nothing got damaged and I'm pleased to know my skid plate works like a champ

is the steering shaft sopposed to have play in it? I was doing my manifold today and shook the shaft that has the ruber boot and it has 1/2 in of play in it. Steering wheel itself is tight and steering reacts just fine
Nope, should be tight. you're probably looking at a set of tie rods, and pitman arm
