If you only have 5K to spend, a Performance Accessories 3 inch body lift is a great value, if you can install it yourself. This will allow you to run up to a 35x12.50 tire on a 10 inch wide wheel. If you want a suspension lift, I'd go with the RCD or Fabtech 6 inch lift with 35's.

For 5 grand you can do a lot if you choose to install it all yourself. Hit up crash_lucky13 (Josh) here and he'll give you a good deal on a Fabtech 6", then just hunt around for some wheels and tires and you'll be set. You could easily get it all for 3 - 4 grand new, even less if you shop around used for tires and wheels.

5k!

heres what i spent just to give you an idea

bds 6" lift + install= $2100
17" eagle alloys= $140 a peice
315/70/17=239 a piece
total=$3616

for 5 grand you should do the lift wheels tires, programmer (400), intake (250-300), exhaust if not already done

now is that 299 for the viper installed or no?

those are just my suggestions. if you install yourself you could go crazy for that much

Here are some numbers I came up with off the top of my head for a budget build. This is assuming you can install all this yourself:

Fabtech 6" - $1600
16x10 Eagle Alloys - $100 (using the ebay price I bought mine for)
315/75/16 Tires - $1100 (again, ebay) (if you don't mind buying used, you can find some good condition tires for half this if you look around)

You're at ~$2800 right there. There's a guy on here that runs KCAutoSound and sells CodeAlarm systems that come prewired for our trucks. Get in touch with him and you'll get an alarm system equal to, if not better than, a viper system. The one I was looking was was $275 shipped I believe and had all the bells and whistles you could think of, putting you at just over $3000 in parts.

If you still wanted to burn some cash, I'd look into getting some 4.56 gears for the truck, which would run you in the ballpark of no more than $1500. Then I'd get some custom tunes for your truck, which would run you about $400.

All of that together is about $5000, and you'd have to install it yourself (except for the gears), which is going to teach you everything you could want to know about your truck. With all of that done, it would be a very very sick truck.

edit: or you can forego gears and do a quality true dual exhaust with new cats for several hundred (Check out my exhaust thread, parts were about $300, install and piping was another $200), or shop around on gears and try and squeeze that into your budget. I'm regearing my truck, and I'm only paying for parts cost ($530), and like a case of beer for labor.

I've built my truck on a VERY tight college student budget, so you can definitely build a badass truck for next to nothing. It just takes a lot of searching around, hunting for the best deal, knowing a few people, and a little bit of luck.

x2, also in college with limited funding. Got my lift, tires, and rims for ~3600 for everything. Luckily i have friends with shops (MercedesTech) who helped me install for a ridiculously good deal.

And i ended up with quality stuff too. Nice chrome 18s, 35" mud tires that not many people have (KM2s), and a Fabtech suspension lift.

discount tire should be able to get you blems. you could save a nice chunk of change right there but getting them instead. my rims were 140. they were gonna sell me blems for 100. like cashel said just take your time and look for the best deals possible. and if you buy all new try and work with one place im sure they will be more willing to make deals for you to save you money.
