Lifting my first truck

Just wanted to introduce myself and have a few questions. I will be getting an 06 fx4 in a few months. It will be my first truck and I want to put a lift on it and right now I'm leaning towards a 6" Lift with 35's. I have no idea where to start. It will most likely only see light off-roading and more street use. From what I've read on here the fabtech 6" kit is the way to go. I'm also trying to keep it on a semi low budget since I'm in high school and don't work full time. I have time to save though. Also, what would be a good tire/wheel set to go with a 6 in. lift. I want aggressive looking off-road tires and I like the look of black wheels. What would be a good route to go? Thanks in advance.

hey welcome to the site bud...yeah fabtech is a good kit to go with. some have skyjacker and some others just depends on what you wanna pay too.. for 35s you to go with toyo open country , mud grapplers , BFG or w.e they are all good tires

Where is a good website to compare the prices for different kits? And are there any big differences when going from a 6" to an 8"?

most deff there is a noticeable diff like my sig i have a 9 inch on 37s but ne ways yes but if you want to get an 8 inch lift total you can go with your normal 6 inch lift then later down the road add a leveling kit and an aal ......or get the bilstein shocks that are adjustable that will give you a better ride plus 2 inches instead of buying an 8 inch lift which will be more exspensive... then if you want more lift then add a body lift or do w.e first. like me i had a 6inch installed on 35s then a leveling kit to make it 8inch and now gonna be adding a body lift to get a total of 11 inches and the total for the extra 5 inches of lift(leveling kit, aal and body lift) for me was almost 650give or take bc did install myself. so however you wanna do it if you have a budget......

I think I'm probably better off just going with a 6" fabtech and 35" pro comp tires or some tires that look good and are cheaper. I also don't really know what kind of wheels I should get. Ya I'm on a serious budget since I just started working at a gas/service station And I'm not sure how long its going to take me to save for all of this

Good choice going with the Fabtech 6 inch kit. I would run a 9 inch wide wheel with 5 inches of backspacing with 35x12.5 Toyo or BFG MT's, these maybe the best MT's for everyday use. Also make sure your truck has the 3.73 gear's and you will need a programmer to help with the 35" tires. Also expect to get around 11 mpg city and 14 hwy if you drive easy. Good luck!

I agree. Also, the Pro Comp standard 6 inch lift is a good lift for less money. Pro Comp also has some nice looking black wheels at great prices.

This site's great. Thanks for the tip on pro comp. Cheaper is better as long as it is good quality. I just saw the pro comp 6" lift for around 1,350 on 4wheelonline. I wonder how long that price will be around since I got some time to kill here. I can't stop thinking about it though so I figured I would start putting a list together.

X2. Try the Mickey Thomson ATZ's very quiet tire not many people run them , but will do light off roading and street. I am getting 12.3 mixed driving easy.

Can someone give me an estimate of how much this would run me if I was to get a procomp or fabtech 6", tires, wheels, a programmer(which one?) and whatever else I need.

what size rims you wanna run? and style of tires--mud/AT? you can spend anywhere from 1400 bucks to 4000 bucks on rims and tires. for the lift i'd say 1700-2000 for the pro comp installed and 2200-2700 for the fabtech just depends on where you go.

hey Chuck, i love those rims

For Rims I like the look of the smaller rims with more tire sidewall, So I'm thinking 16-17" rims. Tires- mud terrrain because A/T's just don't complete the look. I kind of like the toyo open country M/T's.

well 17's is the smallest rim you can go, and some of those wont let you use stick on weights. id say your looking at 1100-1200 for tires. and rims it depends on who and what kind.

theres a good deal for your lift
