my front shocks appear to be working but looks broken...i went offroading and when i was done and i washed my truck i noticed something wrong with my front shock and theres this black peice of plastic thats about 6 inches long and theres a yellow foam like filling that is on the top of this thing that looks like it attached to the top of the shock inside the spring so does this mean its broken or is it functional and if it is broken whats a cheap fix but an upgrade... thank you again everyone im gonna try and get pics with my phone up here

ya neither have i, they seem like they work they compress when breaking and extend when accelerating and they dont lock up, but it looks bad...is there any way to get rid of the shock and spring and put in a big resivoir shock in place...i was going to get traction bars but i kinda think this is more important to fix...so what are my options

 

Looks like the shocks bumpstop. You could just replace it, but a new set of coilover shocks would be a great upgrade.

 

thanks 4 the response i was waiting for you or mercedes tech to help me out i appreciate it alot...but is it possible to get rid of the big spring and go with a big adjustable shock or do you have to use a coilover... and whats a good but cheap route

yup, looks like you chewed up your shock bump. I have seen it a few times.

I agree with Wandell 100%. You could take them apart and repair, but you could also use this as the PERFECT oppertunity to purchase some kings ! They are a bit expensive, but they are well worth it. And the amount you off-road, I would highly suggest it.

Maybe one of the guys running the RIZE with coilover's can chime in and letcha know which ones work best. I know King's work, and are great, but like I said, you gotta shell out some cash.

And your asking about removing the spring: In short, no. These big **** heavy trucks, mixed with retarded IFS makes it so you really need the springs. I don't think you could get away with running a large air-shock set-up. Or, if you could, it would take some crazy custom fabbing and lots, and lots of money. The "no spring, just air shock" deal is usually reserved for off-road buggies. Get yourself a little Suzuki Samurai and have at it !!
