Lower Ball Joints

I have a 2005 F-150, 4x4. I took it in today to get some new tires.. the truck only has about 40,500 miles and the mech. told me that the lower ball joints are bad and need to be replaced. the truck rides pretty smooth, but just kinda curious to why i'd have a $500 repair for a truck with less than 50,000 miles on it ?!?!?... and no, i don't take it off-roading or any other abuse.

is having the lower ball joints replaced so soon a common occurance ?

Do you have a leveling kit ? Get your tires aligned properly/regularly ?

yes Ford is know to have lower ball joints that fail sooner then others. At least thats what a lot of Yota lovers (and other people loyal to other brands).

To me, your seems way too soon. Maybe bring it to another Tech and see what they think. Bring it to an alignment shop, they also would be able to tell you.

That's my thoughts.. i am going to take it to another tire shop and have them do the alignment, and see if they come up with it..

I love the wheels on your truck !!!!..

Thanks for the reply !!

So do you have any type of leveling kit up front ? Those will wear down ball joints pretty fast. Just so ya know!

I started a thread a couple days ago about it, I think you had posted in it as well..

I took it in for a tire change. I decided to go bigger, they also threw on a leveling kit. Shop went to align it and said my uppers were bad. Explains the noise going over speed bumps faster than a crawl..

I just answered your question in the other thread. No hi-jack required.

you *shouldn't* have to. I am pretty sure the aftermarket UCA keep similiar geometry. Should be a straight bolt in.

Maybe in a perfect world, but my right toe was off 3/4" of a degree after my Quick Lift install and I was using the same UCAs. It was enough to notice a pull.

Check out the other thread and see of you can answer his question.

If you mean the shop that did the alignment, no they weren't. I brought it in because the truck was pulling after the QL install (at a different shop).
