Bilstein shock rattle??

Ive been meaning to post up about this for a while now, but I been somewhat busy starting a new semester of school...When I had my lift installed there was an issue with a backorder or something to that nature in getting the bilstein 5150's. They would not have been available till a week after my lift was installed, so they improvised and got 5125's. the problem is they eyelet on the shock seems to be to big? it bounces up and down off the upper and lower shock mount bolts, and its quite irritating on a rough road...Hopefully the way i explained it makes sense. I called ford looking for a mm or so bigger rear shock bolts, and that was a no go. tryed looking for a sort of collar to slip into the eyelet of the shock to size down the eyelet and that didnt work. these shocks have an ton of travel, imo, when i let them loose the shock extended all the way to the top of the fender well and was still stiff like it could extend more, could this be a problem? I was hoping the new deaver leaf packs would solve the problem but I dont think they will. any suggestions??

You're new springs are not gonna change the shock mounting location in any manner. The 5150's and 5125's are both generic shocks, so there's why...but I'm assuming you knew that. I thought the 5125 was like a buggy shock or something??

When you get new shocks they typically come with about 2-6 different sleeves because the shocks are used for more than one vehicle. Sounds like they put the wrong sleeve in the bushing which is causing your problems.

I'm having a similar issue with my Fabtech DL coilovers. I thought at first I had them cranked to high. I was getting a noise as if my coilover was fully extended. I lowered the front a 1/2" and it did not help. I also double checked everything was tight and all bolts fit properly with no play. It makes the noise on small bumps in the road like a manhole cover. I'm lost on what it could be... I would describe the sound like a lower shock bolt too small for the opening hamemering up and down on the smallest bumps. But this is not the case.

Ahhh....I just looked up and the 5125 is basically a 5100 generic application shock. Do you think they may have the proper 5100 for your truck available and then you could complain about the improper fit / problems and they'd swap them out for you?? Always worth a phone call to ask.

Have you contacted the shop who installed your lift about this? Why don't they fix it?

Yea, they said to try a "mm bigger bolt". I saw the pallet of my parts before they started and some of it made me wonder where the hell they got it, ie the shocks....I have not called bilstein yet. Would it be worth it to upgrade to the 5150??

I think you need to tell them to get you the bigger bolt and for them to fix it. I don't understand why they aren't helping you out. I didn't have any problems with my 5150s, though.

The 5150 is still a generic fit shock so you could very possibly end up in the same boat all over again.

This thread is a little old so I'm not sure if you've fixed the issue with your shocks....but I found this site where you can purchase different sized eyelet sleeves for the shocks:

http://www.shockwarehouse.com/site/p....cfm?id=234023

I bet if you call them they can get you the correct size eyelet sleeve you need. Just a thought

Hey, thanks cope. I actually got them from summit not too long ago. I didnt even think to look at a shock store. I was hitting up offroad shop sites....finally found the 1/2 to 12 mm step down sleeve!
